我们还在鲁美上学的时候，刘大卫是一个流传在摄影系的传说：当年的一位师兄，一毕业就下海赚了大钱、做了大款，后来又去了海外。那是90年代初，中国的早期的当代艺术家们还在东村和圆明园吃着百家饭。后来我也毕业10多年了，在北京见到了传说中的真人，他已经毅然转身放下一切做了一名职业艺术家。刘大卫的作品采用硬边绘画的形式，用材料反应了他对当代的观照；他的艺术表达他对于图像在当代语境下的一种转译。
