“Can I Trust the Bible?” by Pastor Dave Park
The worry underneath 2 Timothy 3:14-17 is simple: if the Bible came through people, and people fail us, how can the book be trusted? Paul answers by pointing straight at the people. Look at the lives, he tells Timothy, mine, your grandmother's, your mother's, and trace what actually blessed you. Every part of their lives worth imitating is the part that followed Scripture, and every part that hurt you is the part that disobeyed it. The failures of people don't discredit the Word; they prove it told the truth about us. The deeper reason the Word holds is that it never belonged to man in the first place. All Scripture is breathed out by God, carried through human writers the way the Word became flesh without ceasing to be God, and the same sovereign God who numbers hairs kept watch over its transmission, which is why the manuscripts, the scrolls, and the historical details keep holding up under testing. So the one who has been burned by church people isn't asked to trust people again. They're asked to remain in the Word that saved them, the Word that proves reliable in their own life every time they build on it, and that is still able to make them wise for salvation and complete for every good work.
