Loving Enough to Correct: A Scripture Hike through 1 Corinthians 5:1-5
Mark and Cindy explore Paul’s sobering response to a shocking case of immorality in 1 Corinthians 5:1–5. Rather than ignoring sin, the church was called to mourn, confront it, and remove the unrepentant sinner from their midst. Paul’s words remind us that true love does not minimize the destructive nature of sin—it exposes it so that a soul might recognize its danger and turn back to God. Even the severe discipline Paul commanded had a merciful purpose: “so that his spirit may be saved.” When eternity is at stake, loving someone sometimes means having the courage to tell them the truth, so this podcast concludes with the story of a brave soul who did just that!

Admonished in Love: A Scripture Hike of 1 Corinthians 4:14-21
Mark and Cindy continue their deep exploration of 1 Corinthians 4, discussing how Paul speaks to the Corinthians not to shame them, but to admonish them as beloved children—revealing that genuine spiritual leadership is rooted not merely in knowing truth, but in caring enough to help others live it. They note from the text the dangerous relationship between arrogance and being unteachable, recognizing that impressive words mean very little if our lives lack the power of genuine transformation, and that the kingdom of God is not built on talk, reputation, or empty claims—it is demonstrated through lives surrendered to God’s power.
Ultimately, Paul places the choice before the Corinthians --- a choice we too face every day: will we respond to loving correction with humility, or will our stubbornness require something much harder?

Learn Not to Exceed What is Written: A Scripture Hike through 1 Corinthians 4:6-13
In this episode, Mark and Cindy discuss how everything we possess has been received, so that there is no room for arrogance, social ranking, or spiritual celebrity worship in the family of God.
The Corinthians saw themselves as spiritually rich, powerful, and self-sufficient, while the apostles were willing to be viewed as fools, weak, dishonored, and even as the “scum of the world” for the sake of Christ. Yet their hardships reveal something beautiful: Christian strength is not measured by comfort, status, applause, or worldly success. It is demonstrated when we can be hungry and still content, mistreated and still work, reviled and still bless, persecuted and still endure, and slandered and still seek reconciliation.
Following Christ means being willing to surrender the pursuit of human honor in exchange for faithfulness to God. In a world obsessed with recognition and reputation, this episode asks a sobering question: Are we seeking to be impressive in the eyes of men—or faithful in the eyes of God?
