The Life Behind the Badge: Retired NYSP Senior Investigator Jim Horton

I am so honored to share this important conversation with Retired New York State Police Senior Investigator Jim Horton.

Jim and I first crossed paths professionally when he so generously lent his expertise on the podcast Upstate Unsolved, covering the life and disappearance of Suzanne Lyall. Jim was the lead investigator on Suzy’s case, and to this day remains dedicated to finding answers for her loved ones.

The following conversation was recorded in September of 2020, and is one of the most honest conversations with a law enforcement officer you will ever hear. He dives into his background and what led him to be the person he is today. He shares stories from his time leading the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and his connection with serial killer Gary Evans.

Music:

Purple Planet

FreePD

Vulnerability: A Conversation With My Therapist

For the inaugural episode, I interviewed my therapist of 13 years, Dr. Debra Pietrangelo. Debra is the owner of True North at 499 Glen in Glens Falls, NY, a beautiful community of practitioners dedicated to the wellbeing of their clients and the collective community. In our discussion, we focus on her life’s journey and what led her to be the stellar psychologist that she is today along with what it’s like to watch a person’s development through the lens of being their therapist. Debra also shares her insights on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health.

As you will hear throughout the episode, vulnerability is my number one priority for Not Fake News which is why I chose to start this series opening up with struggles I’ve faced and obstacles I’ve overcome. It’s my goal that in sharing these pieces of myself, a chord will be struck in someone to help them through whatever it is they’re struggling with.

Music:

Purple Planet

FreePD
