Not In The Visit Note

About Not In The Visit Note

Not in the Visit Note is an anonymous podcast hosted by two speech-language pathologists, sharing the conversations that happen after the visit ends—the ones that never make it into the chart. Each week, we break down the good, the bad, and the ugly of speech therapy life: clinical wins, awkward moments, cancelled visits, productivity pressure, family dynamics, and the emotional weight of the work we do. With honesty, humor, and professionalism, we unpack the realities of being clinicians—where boundaries blur and the work doesn’t end when the session does. All stories are told through generalized, anonymized, and composite experiences, offering validation, insight, and solidarity for SLPs and rehab professionals who have ever thought, “I can’t put that in the visit note.” Full Episode / Show Notes Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed on Not in the Visit Note are those of the hosts alone and do not represent any employer, agency, or professional organization. Ep. 20 404 Session Not Found: COVID Edition

When COVID-19 changed the world overnight, speech therapy changed right along with it. In this episode of Not in the Visit Note, we take a trip back to those early pandemic days and share what it was really like to transition from therapy rooms filled with toys and face-to-face interaction to virtual sessions through a computer screen. We discuss the challenges of learning teletherapy on the fly, keeping children engaged through a webcam, troubleshooting technology issues, and finding creative ways to provide effective therapy when everything felt uncertain. We also share some of the funny, frustrating, and unforgettable moments that came from providing speech therapy during one of the most unique periods in our profession. Whether you were a therapist, parent, teacher, or student navigating those changes, this episode is a look back at how we adapted, persevered, and continued helping children communicate when the world came to a standstill. No names. No facilities. Just validation, dark humor, and the stuff that never makes it into the visit note. Being a therapist can be exhausting, chaotic, and sometimes downright overwhelming—but in this episode of Not in the Note, we’re focusing on the good stuff. We’re talking about the moments that remind us why we love what we do: the patient wins (big and small), the funny and unexpected moments, the relationships we build, and the deep sense of purpose that comes with helping others. From celebrating progress to seeing lives changed in ways that don’t always make it in the note, we’re sharing all the parts of being a therapist that still make this job worth it. If you’ve ever needed a reminder of the joy behind the hard work, this one’s for you. No names. No facilities. Just validation, dark humor, and the stuff that never makes it into the visit note. Ep. 18 Teletherapy or Reality TV

In this episode of Not in the Visit Note, we’re sharing the hilarious, chaotic, and way-too-relatable moments that happen during speech teletherapy sessions with kids. From surprise sibling appearances and pets stealing the spotlight to kids logging on in full superhero costumes or disappearing mid-session for snacks — teletherapy keeps us on our toes. We’re talking about the things that never make it into the documentation: frozen screens, unexpected trips to the bathroom, parents accidentally becoming co-therapists, mystery background noises, and the creative ways we somehow keep therapy going through the chaos. If you’re an SLP, therapist, teacher, or parent, this episode will make you laugh and remind you that sometimes the most memorable sessions are the least predictable. Because in teletherapy… flexibility is the real clinical skill. No names. No facilities. Just validation, dark humor, and the stuff that never makes it into the visit note.
