Ep. 5 - I'm Being Bullied

It's not an easy thing to admit, but I was definitely bullied most of my life.

My bully was formidable and knew exactly how to break me down. I don’t remember when I met him, but he definitely called me fat. He’d say I was fatter than the other kids. More stupid than the other kids. Less of a boy than the other boys. Never the boy that the girls though was cute. Funny but not the funniest. Definitely the nicest, but that also makes you less of a boy, less attractive… but that’s all you have.

For years he bullied me. I felt weak. I was happy, but empty. I had optimism, but saw every success as a stroke of luck rather than something I’d earned.

Over time, I've learned how to manage this and control the bullying I've experienced - even effectively confronting my bully. In this episode, I detail the times he tormented me during childhood and adulthood, and exactly how he'd do it - or more importantly, why I let him and how to keep him at bay.

To hear more episodes of the Now On Podcast - go to NowOnPodcast.com. Ep. 4 - Recognizing Unexpected Gifts, and Knowing Your Value (An Interview with Debra Stevens)

In this episode, I host my first interview for the Now On Podcast with a friend, mentor, and former client of mine - Debra Stevens.

Debra and I have known each other since 2011. At the time, she was serving as Director for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and I was the primary strategist for her account. I can say from working with her first-hand that by every definition, Debra is a strategic leader second to none, which is why I’m so honored to have her join as my first guest. Debra is currently the Senior Vice President of Communications and Donor Relations for Honor Health Foundation. Prior to this, she served as the Executive Director of Marketing with Arizona Care Network, Director of Marketing and Communications for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and Vice President for the Phoenix Suns from 1991 through 2004. And those are just the highlights.

Debra's success in her career is impressive, but like everyone, she has also experienced set-backs; however, what's extraordinary about Debra, is how she approached these challenges. Her response to adversity ended up being a model for me when I faced similar hardships. You can watch the entire interview here, as well as listen this and other episodes at http://nowonpodcast.com/.

Ep. 3 - Take off your mask!

Do masks really protect us? Do they cause more harm? How does covering your authentic self help you or anyone around you?

No this isn't about facial coverings during COVID-19. This is about representing yourself as anything other than the true you, and what harm that can cause to yourself and others. In this episode, we walk through why we shield ourselves from pain and what we miss by doing so. We re-evaluate pain itself and decide how we can grow from our past hurt.

Please subscribe to this podcast and tell friends to tune in by going to NowOnPodcast.com.
