What's Up With the Water?

When asked to think about water equity and justice, I’m sure many of us have pictures of Flint, Michigan that come to mind. However, many people would be shocked to learn that parts of Buffalo, NY have higher rates of lead exposure than Flint. During this episode “What's Up With the Water?”, we will discuss with Urban Planner, Art Hall the history of Buffalo’s water, and all the ways local residents are taking water justice into their own hands. Open Buffalo, Citizen Action, WE ACT for Environmental Justice and dozens of community based organizations are taking a leading role in helping to bring clean drinking water to poor and communities of color from across the nation.

The Role of Water in Buffalo's Lead Exposure Crisis

Who Is My Council Member?

Sign-up for our winter training!

Learn more about Art Hall and The Hallmark Firm!

Everyone has a chance to make it in this country…EXCEPT

Open Buffalo believes in restorative practices and justice. We believe that one should have the opportunities to restore whatever harm they may have caused their communities, but also giving a chance for the offender to live a life of dignity and respect after.

We have all heard someone say “everyone has a chance to make it in this Country” Well if everyone has a chance to make it in this country is the rule, todays guests know first hand that there are huge exceptions to the rule. In this episode we will discuss who are the exceptions and solutions to ensuring everyone has a chance to make it in our community. On this episode we will be joined by: Khush Kam-Au & Myquan Greer to talk about Clean Slate legislation and the Buffalo Youth movement.

Building political power PT 3 Jodi Risper
In this episode we will be continuing our conversation on how to build political power from the grassroots level. In order for us to save our communities we must get involved in how our government works. That means showing up for townhalls and community meetings to find out what our elected’s are up to, taking our issues and demands to them, and showing up and voting when our communities aren’t getting their needs met. Featuring: Jodi Risper, Movement Politics Director for Citizen Action of New York
