Na een deal met de gemeente en het havenbedrijf verandert er een hoop op Ruigoord. Er mag niet meer gewoond worden, maar er komen wel meer ateliers. De eerste jaren van het nieuwe millennium moet het dorp zich opnieuw uitvinden. De Ruigoorders van het eerste uur worden ouder en gaan in de stad wonen. Maar met de opening van de nieuwe ateliers komt ook een frisse wind van jonge kunstenaars naar Ruigoord. In 2022 staat het voortbestaan van Ruigoord opnieuw onder druk door de haven. Scharrelmensen Afl. 2: Op reis met de luchtbus
Het vrije leven op Ruigoord trekt eind jaren ‘70 steeds meer nieuwe bewoners aan, ook gezinnen met kinderen. Er wordt gedanst en kunst gemaakt, maar ook veel vergaderd. Een aantal Ruigoorders reist met een oude bus, omgedoopt tot ‘de Luchtbus’, de wereld over als een reizend circus. Inspirerende mensen uit traditionele gemeenschappen uit Australië of Zuid-Amerika nodigen ze uit op Ruigoord. Maar eind jaren ‘80 wil de haven alsnog uitbreiden, en dreigt Ruigoord te verdwijnen.
