Friday 16 October Malaysia Day in Malaysia
The provided text outlines the historical significance of Malaysia Day, which marks the formation of the Malaysian Federation on September 16, 1963, when the Federation of Malaya united with Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak. Although the holiday officially became a recognized national celebration in 2010 to promote national unity and honor the country's path to freedom, Singapore withdrew from the coalition just two years after its inception. Furthermore, the selection of the launch date faced multiple postponements due to scheduling adjustments and regional referendums. Because the nation already observes Independence Day on August 31, the establishment of this secondary holiday gives citizens a unique dual celebration of their sovereignty. Additionally, the source briefly lists unrelated current events coverage concerning regional flight cancellations, refugee deportations, and global news headlines.
