Pondering Your Personal Identity

.

Have you ever spent any time thinking about who you really are? Maybe youβve wondered how other people perceive you. Who you are - your identity - is a powerful force in your life and speaks volumes to others who come into contact with you.

.

Your identity plays an important role in the decisions you make and the relationships you have.

.

Thinking about who you are will strengthen the connections, among your mind, body, and behaviors. Also, you can get a better handle of where you are in life as well as where youβre headed.

.

π¨βππ¨βπ Although there are plenty of psychological theories about identity, including its formation and how you maintain it, consider the following as basic elements of your identity:

.

1. Your personal family history. Where you were raised, who you grew up with, and the experiences you had as you matured from an infant all the way through your early adult years are powerful factors affecting the development of your personal identity.

.

β’ Consider sayings like, βYou can take the girl out of the country, but you canβt take the country out of the girlβ and their implications. So where youβve come from plays a major role in who you are.

.

Click podcast below to catch the rest πππ

Best of all, there are practical steps you can take to turn your errors into opportunities.

.

Guiding Principles for Learning From Mistakes

.

1. Recognize that you can improve. People who understand that intelligence and skills are malleable rather than fixed are more likely to persevere. Your performance improves with practice and effort.

.

2. Accept your imperfections. Anxiety can interfere with your ability to do your best.
Quote: βYour mind and attitudes create either barriers or bridges to good outcomes.β

- Lawrence Albert "Al" Siebert, was an American author and educator. He was best known for his research on psychological resilience and the inner nature of highly resilient survivors.

.

π¨βππ¨βπ Are You Resilient?

.

Life is full of ups and downs. When challenging experiences inevitably arise, youβll want to be ready to rise to the occasion. Your ability to bounce back after a transition or hardship determines whether most of your life is enjoyable and meaningful or troublesome and frustrating.

.

This idea can be summed up in one word: resilience. The more resilient you are, the quicker youβre able to re-adjust to a situation and move forward in life.

.

Consider these ideas you think about your own resilience:

.

π¨βππ¨βπ 1. First responses. When something initially begins to trouble you, how do you respond? Maybe you bury your head in the sand and hope it goes away. Perhaps you just ignore the situation and pretend it isnβt happening.

.

β’ If youβre resilient, youβll choose to approach the situation head-on, and promptly. Youβll define the issue, consider your options, and make a plan. Youβll set out right away to resolve the situation before it becomes a full-blown issue.

.

β’ Promptly employing problem-solving skills will help you avoid a major meltdown.

.

Click podcast below to catch the rest πππ
