[…] The value of the data taxing wages produces and the information it provides on the design and evolution of labour tax systems in the OECD lies both in the insights it generates at a national level and in the international comparisons it facilitates. The data allow governments to benchmark labour tax burdens and to design or monitor reforms to their labour tax system and it can also inform national debates about possible reforms in this sometimes contentious area. These insights help ensure that tax systems remain effective and aligned with broader economic and social goals at a time when labour markets are evolving rapidly, cost of living pressures persist, and public finances in many OECD countries are under strain.
