<p>Polkadots, spiegels en pompoenen. Zo beschrijven wij het gesamtkunstwerk van Yayoi Kusama die al heel wat jaren furore maakt. De ondertussen al 91-jarige Japanse maakt nog elke dag kunst die op het eerste zicht zeer vrolijk lijkt maar toch zit er een somber kantje aan. Ze lijdt namelijk aan horror vacui, ofwel angst voor lege ruimtes. Daarom blijft ze creëren omdat dit volgens haar het ultieme medicijn is om in leven te blijven. Haar spiegelkamers zijn wereldbekend, waarin je jezelf verliest in een oneindige ruimte. </p>

<p>Op de Salon d’Automne werden MATISSE en zijn geestesgenoten afgekraakt als ‘les fauves’, de wilde beesten. Nu is hij wereldbekend en wordt hij gezien als de grondlegger van het fauvisme. Matisse heeft ons een breed oeuvre nagelaten, van zijn enorm kleurrijke schilderwerk tot zijn befaamde cut outs.</p>
