As recent theatre graduates, Ares, Josh, and Michael understand the importance of attempting to make sense of the many complexities of theatre, both on their own and with the help of their peers and mentors. 'Office Hours' is a space for them to reflect on their experiences, discuss theatre theory, and examine the state of the art form, all with the intent of facilitating their growth as artists. Learn from their mistakes, contemplate their ideas and choose for yourself whether they make any sense.

Ares, Josh, and Michael are joined by Intimacy and Fight director Tara Nicole Williams to learn about this relatively new and important role in the theatre industry.
Tara Nicole Williams is an actor, educator, and combat artist residing in Raleigh, NC. She has trained with the Society of American Fight Directors (https://safd.org/) for the last 12 years, specializing in German Longsword and high fantasy choreography. She has also facilitated the introduction of intimacy direction in NC; organizing workshops and special events with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators. (https://www.idcprofessionals.com/)
Along with her own training, she manages the Stage Combat Academy of North Carolina (https://www.facebook.com/stagecombatacademync/), an organization promoting access to fight and intimacy training for artists at every level. Tara also teaches stage combat, acting, and movement with universities, schools, and organizations around the country. Her work focuses on empowering actors to own their unique physicality - using movement to tell intricate stories.

8: Digital Arts Theatre Grant - Part: 1
Josh and Michael explore the concepts and goals of their upcoming project funded in part by a grant from the United Arts Council of Wake County and the NC Arts Council. In an effort to understand how to transition scenic and lighting design training, stage direction, and audience engagement, the two have entered into a process full of collaborative theatre research experiments in video conferencing and augmented reality to better understand the digital / remote / virtually live format.

Josh: & Josh Martin. In undergrad we spent numerous hours in the theatre lobby studying, hanging out, and discussing theatre. We spent so much time doing work there that our professor coined it as our Office.
Ares: The Office became a space of community, growth, and accomplishment. Now that we’ve all graduated we no longer get to spend those long nights in the lobby, but we are still interested fostering community and growing into the theatre artists we want to become.
Michael: So we created Office Hours: A theatre podcast, to preserve the values that space represented and to share it with as many people as possible.
