29. Ron Rivera, the New Coaching Staff and The Front Office Shakeup

The Washington Redskins Season ended on December 29th, 2019… in a matter of days from the final loss of the year the team has a completely new power structure and is headed in a totally different trajectory… The most important move of all was the firing of team President Bruce Allen, without this move nothing else would have mattered, it would all have had the same outcome as almost all problems spurred from Allen's shortcomings. The second most important move that the Redskins will have made this offseason was the hiring of Ron Rivera as our new Head Coach, this move was not made hastily, it was not a situation where the owner just through money at a big name coach to get him in the door, this move took months of research and careful planning on the owners end… It all started with Dan Snyder identifying what attributes winning teams share, determining why they were successful and how they were structured… he then identified who would be the best possible candidate to come into that structure, take control and completely overhaul the organization and the culture. After determining that Ron Rivera was his ideal and top candidate, Snyder acted swiftly and spent a tremendous amount of time with him tediously going over every aspect of the organization and fully laying out his vision to return winning football to the Washington Redskins. After many meetings over several weeks, Dan Snyder and Ron Rivera agreed to terms on a five year contract to become the next Head Coach, allowing Rivera to be the center-piece in a Coach-Centric organizational structure, with the authority to have final say in all decisions (despite Rivera claiming it will be a collaborative effort). Within days of Rivera being named, almost all of the existing coaching and training staff had been jettisoned and new coaches began being hired… Here we are weeks after the 2019 season has ended and the Organization looks completely different, from the very top down almost every single position has been overhauled and there are a lot of new faces in the building, there are also some familiar faces in new positions too. One of the first hires and one of the most important pieces in this new coaching staff, is Jack Del Rio, who will take over as the Defensive Coordinator. On the opposite side of the ball, Scott Turner (son of Norv Turner) will take over as Offensive Coordinator, and returning from his first year as Special Team Coordinator with the team is Nate Kaczor (one of two coaches who was retained from the old regime). Below the coordinators is a new group of coaches, most are from Rivera's days with the Carolina Panthers, and some are from elsewhere around the league… In Episode Twenty-Nine, I will take an in-depth look at every change that the organization has made in the last few weeks, from the restructuring of the Front Office, to the complete overhaul of the Training staff, and finishing with the brand new personnel coming in to round out the Coaching staff. I'll provide some interesting details about each of the new hires and how they fit into the new structure. I take a deep dive into Ron Rivera's introductory press conference and break down some things that he said that really get me excited for what comes next… I close the Podcast with a look to the future, what these changes mean and what comes next for this team… As always, enjoy my unsolicited and unrealistically optimistic opinions on all things Washington Redskins in this Episode covering the beginning of the Offseason and the complete restructuring of this team… If you are enjoying the Podcast (and I hope that you are), please subscribe, leave a rating or review and tell a friend, it really helps to reach a wider audience and I would be very grateful… if you don’t already please follow me on Twitter @HTTRChamps and as always #HTTR Redskins - Washington Redskins - RedskinsNation - Redskins - RedskinsTweetTeam - The Redskins - Offseason Champions - Redskins

28. Dallas Cowboys, Bruce Allen Firing & the Bright Future Ahead

It is the bittersweet end to the Redskins season… we went out, just like we came in… with a tough loss to a division rival. This final game against the Cowboys was an absolute beatdown, Dallas was clinging to the hope of still making the playoffs (barring an Eagles loss), and they came out swinging, making this team look even worse than they were, dismantling the Redskins defense and closing their season with a 47-16 Win. In a game that was almost completely overshadowed by what will come next for this franchise, including some accurate breaking news from legit reporters, the typical here-say and rumors from people with “Sources”, and what was being reported on the National level; it was hard to concentrate on just the game at hand… The Redskins went into it down many of their notable starters and as far as I could tell, no desire to win the game at all… Both teams started flat and for the first two quarters the Redskins were actually in the game, but after halftime the defense fell apart (as usual) and couldn't stop much of anything, and the offense couldn’t get into a rhythm or get anything going. After this final loss, the Washington Redskins finish the 2019 regular season with an abysmal record of 3-13… But there were some bright spots coming out of the game, our Rookie receiving core (sans Terry McLaurin) played exceptionally well and are making a case for themselves to remain as the teams starters going into next season; Montez Sweat also played really well and finally showed signs that he may be the guy we thought he would be going into the season and finally one of the most positive things to come from losing, is that the team secured the second overall pick in the 2020 draft and potentially a chance to Draft the best all around athlete coming out of College: Chase Young (assuming that he declares)… In Episode Twenty-Eight, I cover the good, the bad and the ugly of the Redskins final regular season game of the 2019 regular season against the Dallas Cowboys… I provide a quick overview of the game, my thoughts on the defensive struggles and how it all stems from coaching, the terrific day our dynamic group of young receivers had without Terry McLaurin even on the field and I discuss the players who have shown enough this season to deserve contract extensions and the right to come back next season… I conclude my new ongoing saga that was “the Bruce Allen Firing Watch”, it went much shorter than the “Trent Williams Situation”, but the outcome was exactly what we’ve all been waiting for… I close the podcast with a deep dive into the changes that were made so far, during the first day of the team’s offseason, and a look ahead into what will come next for this franchise… As always, enjoy my unsolicited and unrealistically optimistic opinions on all things Washington Redskins in this Episode covering the 2019 Week Seventeen Loss to the Dallas Cowboys and the Aftermath that followed one of our worst seasons in recent history… this season has been full of ups and downs, unfortunately a lot more downs then I would have liked, but not once did I stop enjoying being a fan and doing this podcast, it has been an absolute labor of love and I truly hope that you are enjoying it… If you are not already, please subscribe, leave a rating or review and tell a friend, it really helps to reach a wider audience and I would be very grateful… if you don't already, please follow me on Twitter @HTTRChamps and as always, #HTTR

27. New York Giants, Dwayne Haskins Injury & the Future of this Team

It was a Giant Win for the Redskins in the race to potentially draft Chase Young… but as for the regular season, it was just another L. With this weeks loss to the New York Giants, the Redskins season record is now an abysmal 3-12… The real headline of the game was another injury to Dwayne Haskins, after playing exceptionally well in the first half, Haskins was tackled from behind (extremely low) and left the game, he walked off the field and headed to the tunnel before getting loaded onto a cart and taken for x-rays… although he did come back to the side line he would not finish the game, leaving Case Keenum to lead the stable of Redskins rookie receivers…It was one of the best played games from this offense all season, unfortunately the defense again was overwhelmed and they underperformed. Despite the D’s poor play the game was competitive, close throughout and came down to overtime. Ultimately Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley proved to be too much of a challenge and the Giants won on the only drive of overtime, beating the Redskins 41-35… In Episode Twenty-Seven, I cover the good, the bad and the ugly of the Redskins fifteenth regular season game of the 2019 regular season against the New York Giants… I provide an overview of the game, Haskins great start, his subsequent injury and all of the drama that arose from that situation, the continued defensive struggles and how a complete overhaul of the coaching staff, scheme and play calling is required if the team will ever be successful with the talent that they have on that side of the ball… I take a deep dive into the youth movement of the team, I take a look at what the future could look like for the young talent on this team and I share my optimism with the players that we have under contract for next season… I take a brief minute discussing the ongoing saga that is "the Bruce Allen Firing Watch" and how no matter how much news is reported, nothing looks to be changing at the moment… I close the Podcast with a look at the final game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys and all that is at stake for them… As always, enjoy my unsolicited and unrealistically optimistic opinions on all things Washington Redskins in this Episode covering the 2019 Week Sixteen Loss to the New York Giants… If you are enjoying the Podcast (and I hope that you are), please subscribe, leave a rating or review and tell a friend, it really helps to reach a wider audience and I would be very grateful… if you don't already, please follow me on Twitter @HTTRChamps and as always, #HTTR
