How Will the U.S. Respond?

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE WORLD THIS WEEK? Should you put salt in your tea? American scientist Michelle Francl recommended putting a pinch of salt in your tea to cut the bitterness, and basically the Brits lost it - calling the idea “criminal,” and “absolute craziness.” Thankfully the U.S. Embassy stepped in to save the day and prevent the special relationship from landing in hot water. Ha, get it? A lot happening in the Middle East…an Iran-backed group attacked a U.S. military outpost in Jordan, killing three U.S. soldiers and injuring at least 40. How will President Biden respond and could it escalate things further? Separately, Israel and Hamas continue to negotiate the next truce and hostage-prisoner swap, and countries have suspended funding to the UN Relief & Works Agency (UNRWA) following allegations that some employees participated in the October 7 terrorist attack. And the International Court of Justice came out with interim provisional measures as it examines South Africa’s case against Israel, so we explain what that means. Russia accused Ukraine of shooting down an airplane allegedly carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, but Ukraine denies part of Russia’s narrative. The two sides were still able to exchange hundreds of prisoners of war a week later. And as negotiations over Ukraine aid get more tense on Capitol Hill, President Biden and Chancellor Scholz will meet on February 9 to discuss how to move forward. The UN has announced that Iran will lead the Conference on Disarmament starting in March! Given Iran’s effort to advance its nuclear program, who better to lead this conference?! (you can smell the sarcasm I’m sure.) How did Iran become leader of this Conference and what does it mean? Finally, we talk to Ben Wittes, editor–in-chief of Lawfare and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, about his #specialmilitaryoperations against Russian embassies worldwide, and how his campaign to basically “be annoying,” won him a Golden Heart award from Ukrainian President Zelensky. You can learn more about his project at @inlieuoffun and his blog, Dog Shirt Daily.

Check out Dog Shirt Daily: https://www.dogshirtdaily.com/

Geek out with us at: https://www.ohmyworld.tv/
And follow us!
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ohmyworldshow/
TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ohmyworldshow
Twitter: https://twitter.com/OhMyWorldShow

Will a Palestinian State be Created??

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE WORLD THIS WEEK? A Houthi social media influencer took a video of himself onboard a boat the Houthis had hijacked, and the video went viral because of followers who thought he was hot, garnering the name “Hot Houthi Pirate,” and Timhouthi Chalamet, for his apparent likeness to the actor. Um…we have reached a whole other level of absurdity. We give an update from the ground in Gaza and why we believe we are getting close to a shift in the Israel-Gaza war. Hamas and the Israeli government are trading possible deals that would include the release of the remaining hostages, and the Biden administration continues to press Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on pursuing a two-state solution, which he continues to reject. Iran struck an area in Pakistan near their shared border, claiming it was targeting Iranian insurgents, but Pakistan says Iran just hit a mudbrick house and killed 6 innocent people. Pakistan then followed-up by striking Pakistani insurgents in an area inside Iran, also near the border. This area does see occasional violence but not this way…so why did Iran even start this? Over a million protesters across Germany came out to protest against Germany’s far-right political party, the Alternative for Germany, or AfD. An investigative report from Correctiv that detailed a “master plan” party officials were preparing to pursue mass deportations sparked calls for the party to be banned and mass protests against fascism. The Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab captured a UN helicopter that had to make an emergency landing in hostile territory and they took the passengers hostage, killing one. The Somali government says it’s working on releasing the hostages but attempting a rescue effort would be difficult. January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day! So, we decided to highlight a couple organizations that share the stories of Holocaust victims and survivors. Why did the U.S. Attack Houthi Militants in Yemen?

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE WORLD THIS WEEK?

A group of Yeshiva students dug a 60-foot tunnel under the World Headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement in Crown Heights, Brooklyn because they wanted to expand it further. This story has unleashed all sorts of conspiracy theories online - as if it’s not crazy enough on its own! What happened with the tunnel under the synagogue, and what were these kids thinking?! The U.S. and UK have struck Houth militant targets in Yemen in order to degrade their military capabilities so they stop attacking vessels in the Red Sea, and to restore freedom of navigation. Did the President violate the constitution with the Houthi attacks, and why did the U.S. and UK pursue these strikes? The Iowa Caucuses have officially launched the election year, so we decided to sum up where the top three remaining Republican candidates stand on the most critical foreign policy issues. Guatemala’s President Bernardo Arevalo was finally sworn-in to office after a dramatic run-up where corrupt political elites did everything they could to try and prevent it from happening. Thankfully, a mix of international pressure and protests from his supporters helped get Arevalo across the finish line - a triumph for democracy in Guatemala. The Iranian regime is beginning to act like a regional hegemon, pursuing terrorist behavior across the Middle East. That didn’t stop the World Economic Forum from inviting Iran’s foreign minister to participate in an interview with Fareed Zakaria though, where the foreign minister blatantly lied in response to every question. At home, the Iranian regime extended Nobel peace prize laureate Narges Mohammadi’s prison sentence. In happier news, the World Health Organization has declared Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) malaria free!
