José Vasco, born into a hardcore Democratic family, hit a roadblock when the party seemed to abandon its working-class concerns and instead got mired in neoliberal identity politics. José then made a jump to conservative Republicans for over a decade, only to find that their insanity was no walk in the park either. In this podcast, Old-Fashioned Democrat, José will keep searching for the ethos of a Democratic Party committed to harnessing the power of government for the common man.
Higher ed is the root of all evil, so why are so few people calling it out? | Quentin Campbell
Quentin Campbell is a veteran of the Bobby Kennedy campaign from 2024. He is studying to become a K-12 teacher. Quentin and José know each other from political book clubs so they had a lot to share on the topic of American universities. Their conversation was prompted at first by this article. (https://oldfashioneddemocrat.substack.com/p/why-does-the-left-avoid-talking-about) From high tuitions to suppression of free speech and complicity with dictatorships overseas, higher ed abounds with problems. It is a shame the left-wing people often feel like they can’t attack the university system the way the right wing does.
