[…] So I got my pen and paper out and I titled this one Friday Night Lights. When the field felt like the whole world. There's something about a high school football field on a Friday night. You can see those lights from a mile away. Long before you reach the stadium, they're rising above the trees or rooftops, letting everybody in town know where they're supposed to be. Underneath those lights, the band is playing. The cheerleaders are warming up. The smell of popcorn hangs in the air. Old friends are finding each other in the stands, and parents are nervously watching the players go through the final drills. […]
