The official podcast of the Auschwitz Memorial. The history of Auschwitz is exceptionally complex. It combined two functions: a concentration camp and an extermination center. Nazi Germany persecuted various groups of people there, and the camp complex continually expanded and transformed itself. In the podcast "On Auschwitz," we discuss the details of the history of the camp as well as our contemporary memory of this important and special place. What is the significance of such a collection of letters, both for the archives and more broadly for our understanding of Auschwitz history? As Mr. Tribulski noted, I am very grateful for the donation of these documents concerning Dr. Jan Novak's time at Auschwitz. This is a truly rare occurrence. It is exceptional to come into possession of such an extensive and compelling collection of documents focused on a single individual. one specific prisoner in this case what is particularly significant is that so many letters sent to dr novak by his relatives have survived from his time at both auschwitz and majdanek this is a very special type of documentation because these letters allow us to see how crucial it was for prisoners to maintain a bond with their families, despite being held in a concentration camp.
