From Fear to Strength: The Wealth 3.0 Approach to Advising Families | with Dr. Jim Grubman
What if everything you've been told about generational wealth transfer is wrong? In this thought-provoking episode of On Pointe, hosts David and Carlos sit down with Dr. Jim Grubman, one of the most influential voices in family wealth psychology and author of the groundbreaking book Strangers in Paradise. The conversation takes us inside real family meetings where G3 inheritors confess to feeling like mere "conduits" for wealth rather than purposeful stewards. Dr. Grubman shares a powerful analogy from the Mayo Clinic that reframes how advisors should think about their role not as quarterbacks calling plays, but as air traffic controllers ensuring nothing crashes and everything arrives on time. From debunking the "great wealth transfer" myth to exploring why trust design is a lagging indicator that won't impact families for decades, this episode is essential listening for anyone navigating multigenerational wealth, whether you're a wealth creator, an inheritor, or an advisor seeking a more enlightened approach. Cross-Border Wealth Planning: Protecting Assets & Navigating Global Tax | Sarah Jacobson, Day Pitney
What happens when a US family member moves abroad, or when you finally buy that dream villa in Tuscany? The tax and estate planning implications might surprise you and could even render your investment worthless if you're not careful. In this episode, host David Savir reconnects with law school classmate Sarah Jacobson, a Partner at Day Pitney and one of the leading voices in international estate planning for high-net-worth families. Based in Miami, Sarah has spent her career navigating the complex intersection of US tax law, foreign trust structures, and cross-border wealth transfers. Their conversation reveals eye-opening scenarios that catch even sophisticated families off guard: how a single trustee relocating to the UK can accidentally trigger an exit tax on an entire trust, why funding a simple revocable living trust while living abroad could cost you 20% upfront in certain countries, and the surprising concept of "forced heirship" that overrides your will in places like Italy and Costa Rica. Sarah also shares how the rise of digital nomads and second-passport seekers is creating tax complexities that existing laws simply haven't caught up with yet. Whether you own foreign real estate, have family members scattered across the globe, or are considering a move abroad yourself, this episode is essential listening. A Guide to Personal Cybersecurity for High-Net-Worth Families | with Sarah Rosen of BlackCloak
From your home's Wi-Fi network and smart devices to the information data brokers sell about you online, your digital life presents a vast attack surface for sophisticated criminals.
