Utgångspunkten i samtalet mellan Michael Sahlin och Lars‑Erik Lundin är att kärnvapenavskräckningen mycket väl kan fortsätta att fungera, men just därför öppnar ett farligt utrymme under ”krigströskeln”. I den gråzonen kan stormakter och regionala aktörer sabotera infrastruktur, bedriva hybridkrigföring och underminera regelverk utan att världssamfundet svarar samlat. Genom exempel från Östersjöns undervattensinfrastruktur, Röda havet, Ukraina och Mellanöstern diskuteras hur globala flödessystem för energi, data och handel hänger ihop – och hur enstaka svaga länkar kan få oproportionerliga effekter. En central tes är att USA:s rollförändring, erosionen av rustningskontroll och internationell rätt samt korruption och inrikespolitiska tipping points driver på denna urholkning av det regelbaserade systemet efter 1945. För Sverige och Europa väcker detta frågan om våra stora satsningar på försvar och totalförsvar i praktiken kan bli verkningslösa om beslutskapaciteten sviktar när flera kriser sammanfaller. Här introduceras ”svagaste‑länk‑logiken” – insikten att ett komplext system ofta faller där den mest sårbara punkten finns, vare sig det gäller kablar, rörledningar, institutioner eller politiska beslutsprocesser. Samtalet pekar ut behovet av att mer systematiskt identifiera och skydda dessa svaga länkar, i allt från EU:s krisbeslut och svensk konstitutionell beredskap till beroenden i energi, ekonomi och läkemedel. Artificiell intelligens och ett möjligt AGI‑genombrott beskrivs samtidigt som en snabbt växande systemrisk som kan förändra både militär balans, cyberhot och hur politiska beslut fattas. Den samlade slutsatsen är att vårt mest realistiska hot 2026 inte är ”tredje världskriget”, utan ett stegvis förändrat systemtillstånd där institutionerna vi litat på levererar allt sämre, och där vår egen förmåga att fatta rätt beslut i rätt tid blir avgörande.
