About On the Cushion: The Mindfulness Educators Podcast
Join me as I sit down with meditation and mindfulness teachers from around the world to explore how they teach, guide, and hold space for others. Each episode dives into the pedagogy behind the practice, unpacking teaching methods, challenges, inspirations, and the evolving landscape of mindfulness education. Between interviews, I’ll share short episodes introducing key educational concepts, theories, and philosophies designed to deepen your understanding and enrich your own practice or teaching. Whether you’re a fellow teacher or a curious practitioner, this podcast offers rich insights into the art of this important discipline.
Ali Lambie founded Mindfulness Hampshire in 2011 while studying for a master’s degree in Teaching Mindfulness-Based Courses at Bangor University. A long-time counsellor, Ali was then working in the NHS as Manager of Southampton’s Primary Care Counselling Service.
Ali first began teaching mindfulness to people who had received counselling through the service and wanted to use mindfulness as longer-term support. This quickly led to privately offered courses for the wider public, and Mindfulness Hampshire was born. In this episode we explore Ali’s deep devotion to teaching mindfulness.

On the Cushion with Suryacitta
Suryacitta Smith has been practising meditation since 1989 and teaching since 1997. He is the author of five books on meditation and happiness. After many years of practising and teaching mindfulness, he recognised that it did not fully address the root of human psychological suffering - the central concern of the Buddha’s teaching.
Around a decade ago, Suryacitta was drawn to the understanding of non-duality, which he describes as the missing piece of the puzzle. This perspective now deeply informs his work, which is characterised by directness, simplicity, and a continual pointing beyond conceptual understanding.
In this episode I talk with Suryacitta about his extensive background in mindfulness and meditation and his inspiring teaching practice.
