I've never really liked Germany, to be honest

"I am not German" had never sounded so proud, as it did when Zara, a 21-year-old student at the University of Goethe, said it. She has never really felt connected to the country, its people, or the language, yet somehow, she still lives here. This phenomenon is quite common among those who came to Germany around the age of 13 or 14—people who think, "We are here, fine, but we’ll definitely leave once we get the chance." Why does this happen, even when these individuals have everything they need for a good life?

Past Lives, Lost Alternatives

“Jeder stirbt für sich allein” says the title of one of the books. At the end of the day, every man dies alone, and the question might be as follows: can we really split our lives into before and after? For example, before emigration and after.

Past lives are those ones that we cannot go through because they are gone. Speculating about what would have been can be destructive but so sexy. On this episode, I talk to Tetiana, where we both share our thoughts on before and after, Ukraine, February 24, as well as on "what would have been" questions.

Again, many thanks for the support by the Radio Dauerwelle community (https://radiodauerwelle.de/).

One love.

Gute Menschen (eng/deu)

After having moved to Germany at the age of 7, Sorina found herself in Bavaria, where it's not easy for all the emigrants, but for her, it was especially uneasy because she was going to a local school. If all the cutie Bavarian grandmas and grandpas "gute menschen", why is it so damn tough to grow up in Freistaat Bayern while being an emigrant?

(00:00) Intro

(01:34) Nonstop of sharing two identities

(07:30) How it all started

(13:27) Ja / Nein

(15:33) Bavarian school system

(21:54) Good something

(27:00) "Ich werde nie vernünftig Deutsch reden können aufgrund meiner ausländischen Wurzeln"

(31:10) Childhood apart from school

(35:10) Roots and reasons

(41:02) Reaction from both body and soul

(47:22) Advice

This episode is supported by a great community of Radio Dauerwelle: https://radiodauerwelle.de/
