54 | The Porsche 996 Dakar that never existed ft. Johan De Bruyn from Safari Projek

COVID brought about many crazy ideas. For Johan, he decided to ordain the Porsche 996-generation 911 the “next classic 911” and make road-going, all-purpose safari Porsche’s out of them. Pretty wild! Besides his endeavours with Safariprojek, he’s also had an itch for racing his whole life. Currently, he’s satisfying the desire by racing Dakar trucks. He is doing it all!

Here are some highlights of the podcast:

00:00:00 Introduction 00:01:24 If you had R1m, what would you buy? 00:03:03 Intro to Johan 00:09:42 Historic porsche racing 00:13:01 GT3 racing 00:13:39 Polo Supercup 00:15:04 Intro into rallying 00:20:51 Format of Rally Raid Racing 00:23:18 The capability of the rally cars 00:24:13 Rally vs Track driving 00:25:05 Project Creep 00:30:03 How has racing influenced your road driving 00:33:34 Safari Projek 00:34:06 Start of Safariprojek 00:42:09 Testing and production of Safari's 00:46:27 Differences in 996 and 997 builds 00:49:20 How customisable are the Safaris? 00:51:09 Configuring the cars 00:53:50 Johan's own Safari 00:57:12 Johan's Dream Car Experience

Follow Johan’s journey here:

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teamjdbracing/

Safariprojek: https://www.instagram.com/safariprojek/

Follow On The Overrun here:

Instagram:

https://www.instagram.com/ontheoverrun/

Tiktok:

https://www.tiktok.com/@ontheoverrun

Linktree:

https://linktr.ee/overrun

Email:

overrunbrand@gmail.com

53 | Breaking your pelvis racing a ‘65 Mustang ft. Franco Scribante

A name that doesn’t need introducing in the South African racing scene, and a name you would have heard a lot about over the past weekend at Simola Hillclimb, racing with his B19 Chevron and heavily-modified GTR called “Sheriff”. His family is well-known in the mining industry, but also for their racing, with Franco being part of a family of racers. He has stories upon stories to tell, including racing F40’s around on Italy’s mountain roads, and how he is rebuilding the very Mustang that almost caused his death.

Here are some of the highlights of the podcast:

00:00:00 Introduction 00:05:43 How did you passion come to be 00:08:25 The choice between motorsport and other ambitions 00:12:05 Knowing what you know now, would you have gone full-time motorsport? 00:16:06 Do you get a thrill from cars outside of motorsport? 00:19:41 Classic car tour experiences 00:22:00 Cape 1000 00:25:03 Most precious cars 00:25:39 300SL story 00:30:41 F40 00:35:00 Car culture in Italy 00:36:16 Race cars owned and driven 00:36:41 B19 Chevron 00:38:41 B26 Chevron 00:39:03 '65 fastback 00:39:11 Mustang Crash 00:40:03 Worklife vs Motorsport 00:43:13 Racing successes 00:46:08 Is the body still up for racing? 00:50:10 Project cars 00:53:33 Muscle Cars 00:54:27 Restomods 00:56:27 One road one car 00:57:03 250 SWB

Instagram:

Tiktok:

https://www.tiktok.com/@ontheoverrun

Linktree:

https://linktr.ee/overrun
