#130-AI, Data Privacy & the Future of Sports | Michael Munson (Dāginty)

Who owns your personal data in the age of artificial intelligence? And how will AI, cybersecurity, and data privacy reshape the business of sports? In this episode of On The Record with Rick Horrow, The Sports Professor sits down with Michael J. Munson, Founder & CEO of Dāginty, at SEICon III in Las Vegas to explore the rapidly evolving relationship between artificial intelligence, personal data ownership, and the sports and entertainment industries. Munson, a serial technology entrepreneur and advocate for data sovereignty, explains how Dāginty is working to transform the way organizations collect, protect, and utilize consumer information through its Sovereign Human Data approach. The conversation covers the growing value of personal data, cybersecurity vulnerabilities in professional sports, the risks of social engineering and data breaches, and how organizations can improve fan engagement without compromising privacy. Munson also discusses the future of AI training, permission-based data sharing, surveillance capitalism, and why individuals should have greater control over—and potentially benefit financially from—their personal information. Following the interview, Rick Horrow delivers his Opening Drive and Five To Watch, examining ten major developments shaping the $2.6 trillion sports business industry. #129-John Filippelli: From Yankee Stadium Vendor to Sports TV Legend

Sports broadcasting legend John Filippelli joins Rick Horrow on On The Record for a candid look at five decades in sports media. Filippelli shares how he went from a teenage vendor at Yankee Stadium to an NBC Sports producer, how naming the entire 1961 Yankees roster helped land him in the business, and what it took to produce Fox's first World Series in 1996. He also talks about launching the YES Network for George Steinbrenner in just five months after 9/11, breaking barriers by hiring the best people regardless of background, and the on-screen innovations that the rest of the industry quickly copied. Filippelli also gives his take on MLB's ghost runner, pitch clock, and ball-strike challenge system, explains why he believes streaming will end up bundled like cable, and makes the case that storytelling, not the box score, is what sells the game. After the interview, Rick Horrow breaks down the week in sports business: the Premier League's ruling against Manchester City, Rogers completing its takeover of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the $110 billion Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery deal, Novig's $2 billion push in prediction markets, and the Big East opening the door to private equity. Plus five to watch: NBC's MLB postseason ratings, WTA equal prize money, college football viewership, the NFL's record Rio audience, and the Presidents Cup comeback. Published 24 Jul 2026 · Transcript excerpt

[…] Flag football, perfect storm, Olympics, NFL getting on it. It's interesting. We know the TGL folks, because of the indoor golf thing, now they bring a women's indoor golf league in, but they're contract with the NFL to do flag football, and it's all a perfect storm.
