Bridget Jones's Diary
Our special Christmas/New Years episode is on none other than BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY (directed by Sharon Maguire, starring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, 2001) The plot, in a nutshell 🥜: Bridget, a single woman, starts a diary which focuses on aspects such as her weight, alcohol habit, eccentric family and love life (or lack thereof). However, her life changes when two men vie for her affection. Our discussion of it, in a nutshell 🥜: as always, we candidly discuss all aspects of the film including the excess of Hugh Grant in rom coms, Renee Zellweger origins and which one is Mark which one is Daniel. We also consider our mother’s lack of presence in this episode (she’s not happy about it either) and Tayla’s lack of understanding of the film’s basic plot (even after hundreds of viewings over decades). SUPER! Let’s get into it! Subscribe to us wherever you listen, and if you can, please rate and review the podcast there. He's Just Not that Into You
We are back! With a new episode on HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU (directed by Ken Kwapis, starring a big ensemble that includes Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Aniston, Bradley Cooper and Justin Long, 2009). The plot, in a nutshell 🥜: the film follows nine people and their varying romantic lives/problems. Gigi, a common thread amongst the characters, consistently misreads all of her romantic partners' behaviors. She meets Alex along the way who helps her to interpret signs given to her by men. Our discussion of it, in a nutshell 🥜: we get candid as always as we discuss this star-studded romcom. We talk about serious topics like what it really means if a guy is mean to you, the importance of good pants in a relationship and the need for gym pools to stay open during the day because people want to swim laps! We also question things such as: is caller ID really necessary? Are Tayla and Tanna really relationship experts? And how do you know if you're the exception!? Notting Hill with special guest Mom!

This week, we reflect on an absolute classic: NOTTING HILL (directed by Roger Michell, starring Hugh Grant & Julia Roberts, and written by the man who has written all your favourite British rom coms, Richard Curtis, 1999).

The plot, in a nutshell 🥜: The life of a simple bookshop owner in Notting Hill, London changes dramatically when he meets the most famous film star in the world.

Our discussion of it, in a nutshell 🥜: the usual rambunctiousness of our recons occurs as we hilariously recount this classic British film – this time with a special guest, the movie’s biggest fan, Claire (who also happens to be our mother)! We discuss in detail the severe overuse of montages (or ‘music montages’ as Tayla calls them), our unstable Julia Roberts opinions and whether our guest even actually likes the movie at all. Plus, we question the quality of Anna’s films within the film, the audacity of William to own an exclusively-travel bookshop and then complain about business being bad, and whether we would be able to call this a romantic comedy if not for William’s friends, roommate and colleague (or wet rag) Martin. Enjoy!

Subscribe to us wherever you listen, and if you can, please rate and review the podcast there.

Please follow us on Instagram @onlyinthemovies_pod or email us at: onlyinthemoviespod@gmail.com to let us know which rom com we should cover next.
