Na de Franse revolutie komt De Dool in handen van verschillende rijke burgers, want de heerschappij van de abten is voorbij. De Naveaus, de Dijons en de Duvieusarts hebben het kasteel en de boerderij allemaal in eigendom gehad. Het lijkt alsof er dus nooit arme sukkelaars hebben gewoond. Dat is ook zo, op één uitzondering na.

Tijdens de 14de, 15de en 16de eeuw wordt er regelmatig gestreden om De Dool. Maar de abten trekken telkens aan het langste eind. Ze blijven met strakke hand regeren en brengen regelmatig wat aanpassingen aan aan het domein. Rond 1522 krijgt het kasteel zijn huidige vorm. Dat is niet toevallig de tijd van de Renaissance. Maar eind 18de eeuw dient zich de Franse revolutie aan en verandert alles.

Voor de allereerste vermelding van kasteeldomein De Dool moeten we terug naar de 13de eeuw. Het domein is dan eigendom van de abten van Sint-Truiden. Zij gebruiken De Dool als buitenverblijf én als vluchthuis want het zijn chaotische en bij momenten gevaarlijke tijden. Luister en ontdek wie de allereerste officiële bewoner is.
