Op het terras van het Nederlands Paviljoen in Cannes bespreekt Cesar Majorana samen met zijn gasten de grootste hypes van het festival, het VR-programma in het Carlton hotel én de bejubelde Nederlandse speelfilm die is opgenomen in een belangrijke competitie. In deze aflevering: - Filmjournalisten Noa Johannes en Loeke de Waal bespreken de film in Cannes waar iedereen het over heeft: de Amerikaanse satire Eddington van Ari Aster, waarin tijdens de pandemie diverse groepen tegenover elkaar komen te staan. - Maartje Wegdam en Nienke Huitenga Broeren, die met hun VR-documentaire Lacuna in het chique Carlton hotel staan, vertellen over hoe VR en immersive producties dit jaar écht serieus worden genomen in Cannes. - Regisseur Sven Bresser maakt grote indruk met zijn speelfilmdebuut Rietland, dat is opgenomen in de Semaine de la critique: zo noemde The Hollywood Reporter het drama, over een rietsnijder in Overijssel die het dode lichaam van een meisje op zijn land ontdekt, een ‘hidden gem’. Het is de eerste Nederlandse film in de nevencompetitie sinds De Poolse bruid in 1998. ‘Op de vijfde rij’ is een productie van VPRO Cinema en Eye Filmmuseum.
