This office has faced years of unrest. There have been accusations of retaliation, lying, and mismanagement at the top, and that's resulted in costly lawsuits for the county. It's also really degraded the public's trust here. Sheriff elections are especially fraught because it's often someone within the department that's challenging their boss for power.
