If I say “AI” and it makes you think of ChatGPT, bunnies on trampolines, or “see what I would look like in the 80’s!”, you’re not wrong, but you’re also missing what’s likely going to be the most important issue ahead of the midterms.
AI is an electric bill issue, a water issue, a climate issue, a jobs issue, a land use issue, and increasingly, a “why the hell are they building that in my town and what’s that constant humming noise?” issue.
Data centers are popping up across the country, communities are organizing to stop or regulate them, and both Republicans and Democrats are trying to figure out how to respond to voters. So… how did we get here? And how do we keep politicians from letting AI and data centers ruin our communities?
