Have you ever tasted an apple right after you plucked it from a tree? It's so much tastier than store-bought apples, the ones you have to peel the sticker off before you bite it. That's the experience Avon's 11,000 students are getting at school lunch.
Avon's Food Service Coordinator Emily Cates and the third-generation owner of Beasley's Orchard Calvin Beasley have built a growing partnership that not only gives Avon students regular access to farm-fresh apples in their school lunches but that also provides a steady source of income for an important family owned and operated farm that grows specialty produce on about 250 acres just west of Town. Beasley's Orchard is a Hendricks County landmark where generations of families usher in the autumn each year at the Heartland Apple Festival, now in its 38th year. They're making an important impact on the next generation through school lunch.

Avon High School's Junior Day of Caring
What happens when you release nearly 900 Avon High School juniors to spend a day serving nearly 40 local organizations? You get Junior Day of Caring. Not only do the local organizations benefit by being able to check numerous labor-intensive tasks off their lists, but the students benefit by having a fun day with friends, learning more about vital organizations, interacting with influential leaders, and deepening their roots in the community they call home. That's what AHS's annual Junior Day of Caring is all about. In this episode, Dr. Wyndham talks with two AHS juniors, Jade Price and Mayowa Adetoye, the day after the event to get their thoughts about how Junior Day of Caring impacted them, their classmates, and the community. Oriole Nation - Students Repping Avon on the National Stage
Inside the classroom and beyond, Avon students are achieving incredible things. In recent months, Avon High School students have competed in national, international, and world championships in extracurricular activities like Speech & Debate, DECA, Robotics, and more. In this episode, Dr. Wyndham sits down with four students fresh off repping Avon on the national stage: seniors Idowu Adeleke, Janani Devendran, and Hannah Foster and sophomore Ian Smith. Listen in as they share their experiences and talk about what it was like to represent their school and community in competition with students from some of the nation's and world's elite schools. More importantly, you'll hear how their experiences in and beyond the classroom at Avon Schools are shaping them into poised, confident, capable young adults ready for their next steps.
