Challenge Unlimited leaders Susan Wild and Charlotte Hammond discuss the organization’s work supporting people with disabilities to live, work and participate in their communities. They explain how the organization connects job seekers with employers, provides job coaching and supports people through the job-search and hiring process, with a focus on National Disability Employment Awareness Month and year-round employment services.
The conversation also explores Challenge Unlimited’s hydroponic smart farm on its Alton campus, developed in partnership with Theodora Farms. Participants are learning to operate the farm and build transferable work skills as the partners work toward growing and distributing fresh produce. The interview also covers the farm’s connection to local food-insecurity efforts and ways employers can partner with Challenge Unlimited.

Villa Rose Senior Living Community in Bethalto Introduces Simple Living Apartments for Adults 55+
On Our Daily Show, Villa Rose Senior Living Community’s Cindy Cannon discusses Simple Living, a new apartment option aimed at adults ages 55 to 75 who want fewer home-maintenance responsibilities and some services included. Studio apartments start at $1,050 per month, with one-bedroom apartments also available. The offering includes biweekly housekeeping and linen service, TV, Wi-Fi, water, sewer, trash and access to community activities; meals and additional services can be purchased separately. Residents may move to Villa Rose’s Signature Living option if they later want more services.
Cannon also describes Villa Rose’s independent living community in Bethalto, including its annual trick-or-treat event on October 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. and an open house on November 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. She discusses the community’s services, social connections and how prospective residents and families can learn about the living options.

Curtis Stevens, founder of Stevens Planning in Alton, discusses why he started an independent financial planning firm focused on serving families without corporate sales quotas. He explains how a first appointment works, how clients help set priorities, and why financial plans should reflect each person’s circumstances.

Stevens encourages beneficiaries to read notices about coverage changes and points to Illinois’ free Senior Health Insurance Program, Medicare.gov’s Plan Finder and 1-800-MEDICARE as resources.
