[…] Someone is literally trying to give us something kind, a compliment. And instead of just receiving it, we respond with a personal cut down against ourselves. Why is it sometimes so uncomfortable to just say, thank you? And I think the same thing can show up with bigger acts of kindness too. Say somebody gives us something and immediately we want to know who did this? How can I thank them? What can I do for them? How do I repay this? And sometimes underneath all of that is this feeling that if someone gives us something, now we owe them something. But what if we don't? What if sometimes the kindest thing we can do is simply let someone be kind to us? […]
