This week on Our Taste is Trash, our hosts, Josh and Jade, review psychological horror film The Backrooms.
The movie is directed and co-scored by 20-year-old Kane Parsons (in his feature directorial debut), and written by Will Soodik. It is based on Parsons's web series which was inspired by the 2019 "Backrooms" creepypasta 4chan post. In the film, furniture store owner Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and his therapist Mary (Renate Reinsve) discover a dimension of seemingly endless liminal spaces accessed through the store's basement. Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell also star.
This movie is based on Parson's YouTube series from January 2022 that created much of the lore and canon surrounding the Backrooms.
Backrooms grossed $400 million worldwide, becoming A24's highest-grossing film to date and making Parsons the youngest filmmaker to reach number one at both the United States and global box offices.

Directed by James Ashcroft and written by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, the film is based on Alex North's novel and stars Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott, Michael Keaton, Hamish Linklater, and Owen Teague. The story follows a father searching for his kidnapped son while an old serial killer case comes back to haunt his family.
