Good News for the End of the World | Grace at Work Among Us
<p>If you knew Jesus was coming tomorrow, what would you do today? As Paul concludes his first letter to the Thessalonians, he gives a surprisingly practical picture of what the grace of Jesus produces in his people. Grace teaches us to honor leaders, live patiently with one another, rejoice, pray, give thanks, listen to the Spirit, hold fast to what is good, and trust the God of peace to keep us until Jesus comes. It may feel like drinking from a fire hydrant, but this is not a random list of commands. This is God’s grace at work among us, within us, and keeping us until the end. Many throughout history have tried to predict the day and time in order to make frantic preparations. The Thessalonians were anxious about this day, too. What they needed most, though, was not a timeline but to return to the basics of their hope in Christ and what it looks like to live in his light. For anyone who trusts in Jesus, his second coming should not cause fear, but encourage a hopeful, faithful, eyes-wide-open life, until he sets all things right.</p>
