Podcast Overview

Everything I thought I wanted, and most of needed to know, I found between the pages. Who I am as a prevention specialist, a veteran, a community activist, an older brother, a father, a husband, a family, a Black man, was a host of life happening and me emerging at different points in different ways. What gave me language for what was happening, what I was experiencing, and who I was and am becoming? The pages. The pages give me language. The pages make things make sense. Come and turn life’s pages with me. See what you see in the world around you. See what you find in yourself.

Buying Power DOES NOT equal/mean Money!!!! (S4-E5)

Season 4 of the Pageturners continues with a highly recommended and much-needed text "Myth and Propaganda of Black Buying Power".

Power, in the phrase buying power, is not what economists consider when assessing the economic health of a group or country. Buying power is not wealth, it cannot be invested at will and used to create more for its investors. Buying power is not stocks, bonds, or land, and is not even real estate, it cannot be built upon, renovated, or flipped. Buying power is not income, it is not earned in exchange for labor and it cannot be spent at will or used to pay one bill versus another. Buying power has its origins in government labor statistics meant to help assess where wages should be set relative to inflation but is now, today, mostly a phrase created and propagated by marketers in an attempt to assist the business community to govern its advertising revenue. Power, in the phrase buying power, strictly means the power consumers have to buy one available product over another. Put another way, power, in the phrase buying power, means only the power to generate wealth for one corporation or another.

This is a season of Pageturners, your host Elgin "Big EL" Bailey, you DO NOT WANT TO MISS!!!

May the pages we read, assist you in being the change we need.

#books #Literacy #Racialliteracy #MOBP

"Propaganda Versus Economics: Constructing a Myth" S4-E3 (End Ch. 1/Start of Ch. 2) #MOBP

The myth of Black buying power is dismantled by taking primarily two lines of argumentation: (a) as an issue born of a media environment itself well suited to the transmission of propaganda and, (b) as an issue of economics, or economics reporting, where substantive research and data on the economic condition of Black people is supplanted by more salacious and fallacious claims of economic strength.

Season 4 of the Pageturners continues with a highly recommended and much-needed text "Myth and Propaganda of Black Buying Power".

This is a season of Pageturners, your host Elgin "Big EL" Bailey, you DO NOT WANT TO MISS!!!

May the pages we read, assist you in being the change we need.

#books #Literacy #Racialliteracy #MOBP
