   Anina Major: The Sacred Mangrove

This episode of InConversation is inspired by the work in the exhibition Anina Major: The Sacred Mangrove, showcasing work at PAMM that is deeply compelling for the way it transforms a traditionally soft,  impermanent practice, "Bahamian palm-leaf weaving," into a monumental and enduring sculptural language through clay. By hand-weaving ceramic forms to resemble plaited fibers, Major honors the labor, knowledge, and ancestral memory embedded in Bahamian craft traditions, elevating them beyond their frequent marginalization as souvenirs or  commodities within the tourism economy." Participating in this episode are members of the PAMM Teen Arts Council 2026-2027 cohort, including Blanca Davila, James Elijah Leano, Alexa Umwiza, Lian White, and Valentina Zapata; PAMM Content Writer and Editor, Nathalia Pertierra; and PAMM Wikimedia in Residence, Michaela Blanc. Past Exhibition Highlights #2: El Monte

What does it mean to encounter a tradition that lives at the boundary between the seen and the unseen? In this episode of In Conversation, Victoria embarks on a journey into Lucumí, the Afro-Cuban religious and cultural tradition rooted in Yoruba heritage, guided by the scholars, practitioners, and artists who know it intimately. Along the way, she speaks with a multidisciplinary artist whose work channels Caribbean mythology and mysticism through wax, metal, and photographic chemicals, a leading scholar of Afro-Latin American and Caribbean cultural thought and the culture-bearers of Clave Y Cuba, whose Afro-Cuban ancestral lineage stretches back more than 500 years. Together, they open a window onto a living tradition of its music, its histories, and the ways it continues to shape identity and community across the Caribbean diaspora and beyond. Public Enemy: Gary Simmons

Artist Chire “VantaBlack” Regans’ art practice exists at the intersection of social justice and storytelling. Her work responds to urgent societal concerns and functions as a critical platform to amplify the voices of community members who are often silenced. Over the past decade, Chire has focused primarily on community advocacy and depicting social narratives without distortion in various mediums.
