[…] It's a good story, but apparently it's completely nonsense. Henry IV did not die in battle. Sadly, he was assassinated. On the 14th of May, 1610, François Raviac, a Catholic zealot, stabbed him while his coach was stuck in traffic on the rue de les Ferronniers, near Les Halles. Henry died. I'll spare you what happened to Raviac. His position here on the Pont Neuf is no accident. It was carefully chosen as he was surrounded by projects that he had overseen. He stands on the bridge he had built, to his left the Great Gallery of the Louvre, and he looks towards the Place Dauphine, which along with the Place des Vosges are two of the most beautiful squares in Paris, if you ask me.
