Episode 13 - The Jersey Devil

Episode Summary: The Jersey Devil Dive into the haunted heart of New Jersey’s Pine Barrens—a million-acre wilderness of sandy soils, cranberry bogs, cedar swamps, and ancient Lenape spirits. We trace the real history: Swedish settlers, Quaker refugees, Revolutionary “Pine Robbers,” bog iron forges, and the isolation that birthed legends. Meet the Leeds family—surveyor Daniel, his almanac feuds with Quakers and Ben Franklin, and the cursed cabin where Mother Leeds’ 13th child emerged as a winged horror in 1735: goat head, bat wings, cloven hooves, red eyes, and a blood-curdling scream. From hoofprints vanishing into thin air to livestock kills and the 1909 “Jersey Devil Mania” panic (schools closed, posses formed, factories halted), we unpack the curse’s shadow. Then, relive chilling sightings: a Revolutionary sentry’s musket shot, Joseph Bonaparte’s hunt, a 1978 cop chase, 2008 campers’ blurry photo, 2015 river wading, and the fresh 2025 Batona Trail stalker with GoPro audio. The Telephone Repairman: Vicki Wegerle's brutal slaying, disguised as a routine service call, complete with Polaroid trophies and a frantic escape amid barking dogs and open windows. The Final Victim: Dolores Davis' ritualistic end, complete with a postmortem mask, photographs, and keys tossed on the roof—a ceremonial close to BTK's killing spree. The Eerie Silence: Inside the "Quiet Years" (1991-2003), where Rader cross-dressed as his victims, stalked neighbors, and maintained his facade as a compliance officer and church leader. Episode 10 - James Ruppert Easter Massacre

Episode Summary: James U. Ruppert Hamilton Easter Massacre On March 30, 1975, James Urban Ruppert, a troubled and reclusive 40-year-old man, committed one of Ohio’s most horrific mass murders. After years of simmering resentment toward his family—fueled by paranoia, financial dependence, and a belief they were conspiring against him—Ruppert methodically executed 11 relatives during an Easter gathering at his mother’s Hamilton home. Armed with multiple guns, he shot his brother, sister-in-law, eight nieces and nephews, and finally his mother in a calculated rampage. Ruppert’s trial revealed a lifetime of psychological deterioration, marked by delusions of persecution and a fractured relationship with his domineering mother and favored older brother. Though initially sentenced to life in prison, legal battles over his sanity dragged on for decades. Despite multiple parole hearings, Ruppert remained incarcerated until his death in 2022 at age 88. The case remains a chilling study of familial dysfunction, untreated mental illness, and the catastrophic consequences of unchecked rage. Episode 9 - Tool Box Killers Part 2

Episode Summary: The Tool Box Killers - Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris In this chilling episode of The Paramurder Cast, we delve into the horrifying crimes of Lawrence Sigmund Bittaker and Roy Lewis Norris, known as the "Tool Box Killers." This American serial killer duo committed the kidnapping, rape, torture, and murder of five teenage girls in Southern California over a five-month period in 1979. Bittaker and Norris met in prison and bonded over their shared interest in sexual violence and misogyny. They made a pact to kill one girl of each teenage year from 13 through 19 after their release. The pair used a van, which they nicknamed "Murder Mac," to pick up their victims, often hitchhikers. Their first victim was 16-year-old Lucinda Lynn Schaefer, who they abducted, raped, and strangled before throwing her body over a canyon. They went on to commit similar atrocities against four more young women: Andrea Joy Hall, Jackie Doris Gilliam, Jacqueline Leah Lamp, and Shirley Lynette Ledford. The killers used various tools from their toolbox to torture their victims, including pliers, ice picks, and sledgehammers. They also recorded some of the horrific acts on audio tape, which provided crucial evidence against them in court. Bittaker was sentenced to death for the five murders but died of natural causes on death row in 2019. Norris accepted a plea bargain, agreeing to testify against Bittaker in exchange for a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years. He died of natural causes in 2020. This episode explores the disturbing crimes committed by these sadistic killers, their early lives, and the impact of their actions on the victims' families and the community. unknown. In this episode of The Paramurder Cast, join hosts Daniel, Dave, and CJ as they take a deep dive into the mind and life of David Berkowitz, notoriously known as the Son of Sam. This infamous serial killer terrorized New York City during the scorching summers of the late 1970s, leaving a trail of violence and fear that forever changed the city and captivated the nation. We unravel Berkowitz's disturbing transformation, from his early years to his capture, shedding light on the factors that drove him toward a path of violence and the dark legacy he left behind. We begin by exploring David’s turbulent early life, including his traumatic adoption, complex relationship with his adoptive parents, and the discovery of his birth mother. We’ll delve into his intense feelings of rejection, resentment, and alienation as he grew up, along with the early signs of a troubled mind: the petty crimes, aggressive behavior, and morbid fantasies. As we trace his descent, we'll uncover how the combination of his troubled upbringing and his later isolation drove him deeper into darkness. Moving into his terrifying string of murders, we cover each of Berkowitz’s shootings in chilling detail. Starting with the brutal attack on Donna Lauria and Jody Valenti, the episode recounts the growing toll his violence took on the city and its residents. We’ll examine how the "Son of Sam" managed to instill fear and paranoia throughout New York, striking without warning, often late at night, and targeting young couples. We also dive into his infamous letters to the press, signed ominously as 'Son of Sam.' These cryptic messages taunted police and media alike, fueling a media storm that sensationalized his crimes and further panicked the public. The investigation, with its intense manhunt and mounting pressure, finally culminated in Berkowitz’s capture. We’ll discuss the tireless work of the NYPD, the slip-up that led to his arrest, and the relief felt by a city finally freed from his terror. In the aftermath, Berkowitz's confessions left more questions than answers, and we explore the controversies, including his claims of demonic possession and the infamous 'talking dog' incident that supposedly spurred his murders. We'll also take a look at his surprising jailhouse transformation, where he began identifying as a born-again Christian. Has David Berkowitz really changed, or is this yet another manipulation from a skilled sociopath? Join us for an in-depth look at the twisted psychology of David Berkowitz, the heartbreaking impact on his victims and their families, and the media frenzy that made him an infamous figure in American criminal history. Episode 2 - Skinwalkers

In this episode of *The Paramurder Cast*, Daniel, Dave, and CJ explore the eerie world of Skinwalkers, legendary shapeshifters from Navajo folklore. Known as "yee naaldlooshii," Skinwalkers gain their powers through dark rituals and can transform into animals like wolves or coyotes. These beings, often created through murder or tribal betrayal, are feared for their violent nature, enhanced strength, and supernatural abilities like mind reading and mimicking human voices. The hosts share chilling stories of Skinwalker encounters, passed down through generations and from internet forums. One Redditor recounts seeing a grotesque half-human, half-animal figure while driving through Arizona. Another story involves a traveler hearing a familiar voice calling him from a creature with glowing yellow eyes while camping in Navajo territory. In one of the most disturbing tales, a Reddit user describes a horrifying encounter with a dog-like creature that later appeared outside their window, watching them with glowing white eyes. The episode also examines how Skinwalker legends have become part of modern folklore, blurring the line between myth and reality. The hosts invite listeners to consider whether these stories are mere cultural tales or something far more sinister lurking in the Southwest. Listeners are encouraged to share their own Skinwalker experiences as the episode wraps up with a haunting reminder that some legends refuse to fade away.
