Neurodivergence in Girls and Boys: What Parents Might Miss
Could an autistic or ADHD child be overlooked because they seem to be doing fine? In this episode of Parent Hacks for the Neurospicy, we talk about how neurodivergence may show up differently in girls and boys, and why the less visible struggles deserve attention too.
We share three parent hacks: look at the full diagnostic criteria instead of relying on a stereotype, observe your child’s play, and listen to how they describe their friendships while watching the dynamics for yourself. A child may have friends and still work hard to keep up with social expectations. They may seem calm at school and come home overwhelmed.
These are clues to get curious about, not a checklist for labeling your child. Tune in for a closer look at what your child might be showing you.

Parent Hacks for Understanding Autism Level 3: Support the Need, See the Child
Autism Level 3 means requiring very substantial support, but it does not define a child’s intelligence, potential, or ability to connect. In this episode of Parent Hacks for the Neurospicy, we talk about supporting the need without assuming incompetence or labeling behavior as defiance. Learn why a child may be able to do something one day but not the next, how visual communication and simple “first, next” language can reduce overwhelm, and why consistent routines create safety. We also share how to build a meltdown plan using HALT to check basic needs: Are they hungry, angry, lonely, or tired? Finally, we explore how sensory processing and environmental triggers may contribute to distress. The shortcut: provide substantial support as necessary, and get curious about what your child’s behavior is communicating.

Parent Hacks for Autism Level 2: Support the Need, Not the Severity
What does Autism Level 2 really look like in everyday life? In this episode of Parent Hacks for the Neurospicy, we focus less on the severity and more on understanding what your child needs to feel supported, regulated, and successful. We talk about why just because a child can do something doesn’t mean they can do it consistently, especially when they are tired, stressed, overwhelmed, or dysregulated. We also explore the idea that behavior has a reason and may be your child’s way of communicating a need. Sometimes one of the best things we can do is talk less, use more visuals, and pay attention to what helps our child regulate. Whether it’s headphones, movement, a favorite object, quiet time, or a predictable routine, learn what works for your child and protect and advocate for those supports. Autism Level 2 may describe how much support a child needs, but it doesn’t define who they are or what they are capable of.
If you’re parenting an autistic child and sometimes find yourself wondering, “Why can they do this one day but not the next?” or “What is this behavior trying to tell me?” this episode is for you. Tune in for practical parent hacks that can help you look beyond the behavior, understand the need underneath it, and become a stronger advocate for the things that help your child thrive.
