   The Oreo Cookie Strategy

Michael shares a strategy that has transformed his decision-making process in both family and entrepreneurial settings. Using the analogy of an Oreo cookie, he explains how the cream in the middle represents the time between thoughts and actions, and how you can utilise this fascinating strategy to change the way you work and live… KEY TAKEAWAYS Increasing the gap between thoughts and actions can lead to better decision-making in both family and entrepreneurial settings. The Oreo cookie strategy, with the biscuits representing thoughts and responses and the cream representing the time between them, can help in making more thoughtful and measured responses. Reacting impulsively, especially under stress, can often lead to unhelpful outcomes, while responding thoughtfully and curiously can lead to more positive results. The Oreo strategy can be applied in both parenting and business scenarios, allowing for a pause before reacting and making decisions aligned with goals and values. BEST MOMENTS "What I find with the Oreo cookie strategy, however, is that A, it's a funny analogy. It's a funny scenario. So it sticks in my head very easily and it's easy to sort of extract in the heat of the moment." "I miss a bus, there's always another bus coming. However, I don't want to go piling all of my eggs into one basket and then find out that it was a bit of a bum deal just because I was caught up and reacted in an emotional way in the moment." "For me, at least, the energy that I'm feeling if I'm responding is a much more calm, level-headed and clear perspective, I have clarity in my head, whereas if I'm reacting, it kind of feels like everything is being compressed into the middle of my body, and that there's not oxygen or blood flowing to my brain." "It's very important to have a very clear why. It's very important to understand what your values are. It's very important to understand your direction of travel” SPONSOR This season of the Parentpreneur Podcast is sponsored by Leadology.ai  Find out more by clicking the link below. http://www.leadology.ai/mike (http://www.leadology.ai/mike) ABOUT THE PODCAST Welcome to the Parentpreneur Podcast, where we help fellow entrepreneurs achieve in business & balancing the demands of parenthood. Balanced Ambition - with Matt Southam

This time the tables are turned as Michael becomes the subject of the conversation during an appearance on the Balanced Ambition Podcast, hosted by Matt Southam. Michael shares his unique approach to managing the dual roles of an entrepreneur and a parent. In this episode, Michael reveals how he masterfully structures his day, blending discipline with flexibility to maximise productivity while ensuring self-care. He discusses the significance of self-awareness and self-discipline in balancing his professional and family responsibilities. KEY TAKEAWAYS Regular exercise, mental health awareness, and proper nutrition are pivotal in enhancing performance in both business and personal spheres. To build effective habits for long-term growth, it’s critical to take tiny, consistent steps forward at all times. Money provides freedom and choice, but it should not be the sole motivator. Mind your own business and focus on mastering something you are passionate about rather than pursuing ego-driven goals. BEST MOMENTS "I learned a lovely little phrase. So I used to, I'm an alumni of a martial arts teacher. And he always used to describe dynamic equilibrium as being the perfect state to be in when you were fighting." "The short question is, ask me today and I'll give you a different answer to the one I'll give you tomorrow "Freedom lies within the discipline." "Efficiency is doing things right. Effectiveness is doing the right thing." Balancing Fatherhood and Entrepreneurship - with Luke Carter

Michael interviews entrepreneur Luke Carter about his journey as a parent and businessman. Luke shares his experiences as a father and his passion for entrepreneurship, highlighting the importance of aligning one's values with their business ventures. He discusses his diverse range of business interests, including property, funding, and trading, and how he stays attuned to global trends and market changes. Luke also delves into his personal journey of overcoming mental health challenges and the therapeutic process of writing his book, "Darkness to Light." KEY TAKEAWAYS Luke emphasises the importance of having a robust and healthy relationship with one's subconscious, both as a parent and as an entrepreneur. He believes that self-awareness and self-growth are crucial in raising children and building a successful business. In terms of trends, Luke has observed a significant shortfall of liquidity in the lending market, with major institutions buying fixed income instead of lending out. This has created opportunities for challenger banks and private credit organisations to provide more flexible and tailored solutions to borrowers. Luke has written a book called "Darkness to Light" as a therapeutic and self-healing process. The book consists of 111 quotes that capture his emotions and journey from depression to success. He believes that the book can provide strength and inspiration to others who may be facing similar challenges. Luke's experience growing up with a professional footballer father has had a significant impact on his life. While there were challenges, such as feeling the pressure to live up to his father's achievements, Luke also recognises the importance of his background and heritage in shaping his identity and values. Find Luke: LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/lukecarter07/) BEST MOMENTS "I always tend to put my true emotions, not my reactive emotions, first and then have the drive to achieve more. You're naturally going to do better than you even thought you could because it's in resonance." "I always wanted to do that, you know, the 1%, 1%, 3% rule, you know, consistency every day. That's what my goal was. And you constantly have to work on that because I have a habit of freaking myself out by thinking too much in the future and causing anxiety." "I'm a big believer in natural flow and energy and law of attraction. I believe in divine timing and going with your gut instinct. I'd start the first few words. Sometimes I had no idea where it's going, but the words would flow."
