Fresh Food as Healthcare | Park City News
Fresh produce is becoming prescription medicine in a groundbreaking program called the Food Farmacy, where doctors refer patients with chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension to receive nutritious food straight from community gardens, local farms, and rescued restaurant meals. Every two weeks, volunteers deliver groceries to homes, while alternate weeks feature lively pop-up farmers markets outside the clinic—where recipients pick their own food, chat with staff about recipes, and even help shape what grows next. It’s not just about feeding bodies—it’s building community, empowering healthy choices, and teaching kids where food comes from. Whether you’re volunteering or just soaking in the garden vibes, this initiative is reshaping how we think about health and hunger.
