هر رنگی برای ما آدمها ، میتونه مفهومی رو در ذهنمون ، تداعی کنه ، رنگی که ما میبینیم ، حسش میکنیم و درک میکنیم . اما وجود همه اینها هم ، نمیتونه این حقیقت رو ، که رنگ یک توهمه و فقط در ذهن ما ساخته میشه ، تغییر بده. رنگ ها اونطوری که ما میشناسیمشون، توی دنیای واقعی مثل بقیه اجسام فیزیکی ، وجود ندارن. اونها فقط در ذهن ما ساخته میشن. مغز ، بازه مشخصی از طیف های الکترومغناطیسی رو به رنگ تبدیل میکنه. ما میتونیم طول موج تابش رو محاسبه کنیم اما نمیتونیم تجربه ی یک رنگ رو در ذهن من و تو ، مشاهده یا اندازه گیری کنیم. پس از کجا باید بدونیم زمانی که من و شما مثلا به یک توت فرنگی نگاه میکنیم و در مغز شما این مفهوم شکل میگیره ، که شما بهش ، قرمز میگید ، در ذهن من ، این مفهوم اتفاق نیافتاده؟

پادکست تکامل در ستایش فراغت، مقاله ای از برتراند راسل برتراند راسل در سال 1935 مقالهای با عنوان «در ستایش فراغت» منتشر کرد. این مقاله از همان زمان تا به امروز نقد شد و هر کس با هر تخصصی سعی کرد تمام یا دستکم بخشهایی از نوشته را زیر سوال ببرد. اشتباهات راسل در زمینه نظریات اقتصادی، و البته پیشرفتهای علم اقتصاد باعث شد که ستایش او از فراغت رفتهرفته فراموش شود. برای نمونه ما میدانیم که این حرفها درست نیستند: «تمام مالیات و نیز پولهایی که در بانک گذاشته میشود، فقط به مصرف جنگافروزی میرسد و هیچ سودی برای جامعه ندارد.» یا «از آن جهت که سرمایهگذاری عموما به شکست منجر میشود، خرج کردن پول حتی در راه قمار بهتر از سرمایهگذاری است.» با این وجود در یک دیدگاه متعادل میتوانیم ستایش بیچونوچرای کار زیاد را هم زیر سوال ببریم. در این مقاله قصد نداریم ستایشهای راسل از فراغت را تکرار کنیم. بلکه میخواهیم جایی بین بیکاری مطلق و زندگی بدون استراحت، نقطهای متعادل و مطلوب پیدا کنیم.
