Why? : Why Do We Always Do the Same Thing? - Romans 10:5-17
Why do we always do the same old things in Church? We always have confession. We always say the creeds. We always say the same old things at communion, at confession, at the prayers. Why don't we do new things? It can seem tedious and dull and too repetitive to do the same thing over and over. So why aren't we doing new stuff? It's not that we do the same old stuff just to do it. We keep a pattern in worship and in what we say and do, because we need to. It reminds us of our need for a savior. We say the same story every Sunday because it shapes who we are and how we see the world. We hear each and every week the promises of Jesus that we have faith in and it strengthens that faith! We do the same thing, because we need to hear, confess, and believe in the promises of Jesus every single day. We follow a pattern in our worship that we may hear the promises of Jesus, remember who we are, and live out our faith.

Why? : Why Are We So Unwelcoming? - 1 Cor. 10:16-17
Communion and who should receive it is one of the most complicated and controversial conversations in the church today. In our church body, it's a very complicated issue. We think that not allowing people to come to communion is unwelcoming, unfriendly, and unfaithful. If it's a gift of God to all, shouldn't we be giving it to all people? The meal of the Lord's Supper, is for the church. It's for the body of Christ. Even more than that, it's for those who share our confession of faith, and are a part of that same body. It's not that we want to be inhospitable; it's that we value the Gospel and it's clarity, and we value our confession of faith as well as others. We don't want to be unwelcoming, we want to share the truth about who Jesus is! We keep a close table, out of a love for our neighbor, love for the Gospel, and love for Jesus and his promises.

Why? : Why Do We Baptize Babies? - Acts 2:36-41
In life, we rely heavily on our rational thinking. We wonder how water can do something as amazing as what we say it does in baptism. We question why we should baptize babies if they don't know what's going on. We contemplate whether baptism is not just a passive event, but a decision that we make. Yet, our rational minds fail us when we compare what we think, with what God's Word says. When we read God's Word, we see that baptism is a gift from God. It's a free act of forgiveness, resurrection, and new life that we receive because of God's promises to us. Baptism is God's action in our lives, his decision to make us his own and give us the gift of the Holy Spirit, not our decision for him. Baptism is all God's work, and we rejoice in this gift! Baptism is a gift of grace from God to us, for all (even the littlest), for forgiveness and new life.
