Welcome to The People Power Podcast, winner of a 2026 Silver Telly Award for Best Series-Social Impact in Online Video Series.
The People Power Podcast offers an in-depth exploration of climate-related challenges that impact us on local, national, and global levels. We investigate the intersections of racial injustice with environmental and economic justice, shedding light on the difficulties faced by our communities, particularly those of color.
Key Topics Covered: * Utility injustice and energy burden * Grassroots organizations providing real-world solutions * The threat of data centers and artificial intelligence on our natural resources * Voter rights, advocacy, and more!
While essential for our modern technology, data centers come with significant costs. They consume vast amounts of resources and can strain local infrastructure, particularly water and electricity supplies, and posing a threat to our communities.
Brandon Forester, a key organizer at Media Justice joins us on this episode to discuss how these facilities can exacerbate existing inequalities, especially in communities of color.

Fighting Environmental Racism in Shiloh, AL
This week, Rev. Malcom and Lindsay engage in a conversation with key figures from our latest documentary, “WASHED - The Fight for Environmental Justice.”
In 2017, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) initiated the expansion of Highway 84 from a two-lane to a four-lane road. While this project aimed to enhance transportation, it has had devastating consequences for the Shiloh community. Poor planning has led to flooding, the displacement of residents, and damage to homes. The elevated highway now directs water into the community, creating a bowl effect that intensifies flooding during rainstorms.
This episode presents a heartfelt and impactful discussion surrounding environmental justice, land loss, and community activism in Shiloh, Alabama. Guests Pastor Tim Williams and Dr. Robert Bullard share their experiences in combating man-made flooding, addressing environmental racism, and highlighting the importance of community resilience.
