The Role of AGN Jets in Shaping Galaxy Evolution with Ms. Olga Borodina
In this cosmic deep dive, we sit down with astrophysicist Ms. Olga Borodina to unravel the fascinating world of AGN jets colossal, high-energy outflows launched from the hearts of galaxies by supermassive black holes. What exactly are these jets, and how do they form? More importantly, how do they sculpt the galaxies that host them?
We explore how AGN jets interact with galactic gas, their potential to both suppress and ignite star formation, and their lasting influence on the evolution of galaxies over millions of years. Ms. Borodina breaks down the mechanisms behind these powerful forces and reveals how they affect not just individual galaxies, but entire galaxy clusters and the intergalactic medium.
We also delve into the cutting-edge observational techniques and simulations that are transforming our understanding of jet dynamics, discuss recent discoveries that are reshaping the field, and highlight some of the biggest open questions scientists are still grappling with.
Could our own Milky Way have once hosted AGN jet activity—and could it happen again? And what future telescopes or space missions could unlock the next breakthroughs in this exciting area of research?
Whether you're a space enthusiast or a seasoned astrophysics fan, this episode offers a compelling look at how AGN jets are not just byproducts of black holes but architects of the universe itself.
