About Perfect Face Productions Presents - Junkyard by Clifford D. Simak
It all began with an idea; a simple but exciting concept born from the shared talents of two old friends who found themselves separated by miles yet united by creativity and a passion for storytelling. They wondered, could their combined skills be transformed into something fun and engaging that people would not only listen to but also enjoy? The answer to that question is still unfolding, but that’s where you come in. Your presence here tells us you're seeking something fresh, something off the beaten path, and for that, we’re immensely grateful. Enjoy!
Work Wonders: A Stone Cold Waiting Game - Episode 3
Welcome back to another edition of Work Wonders, the podcast where we shine a bright spotlight on the unsung heroes who keep America’s infrastructure, history, and daily life moving behind the scenes. In this extra-special episode, guest host Chad “The Larynx” Stevens steps behind the microphone to bring you an unforgettable conversation with a living landmark of Washington, D.C.: Mr. Cyrus "Cy" Butterfield.
For seven full decades, Cy has been the steady hand keeping the marble gleaming at one of the nation's most iconic sites—the Lincoln Memorial. If you’ve ever walked up those grand stone steps, stood beneath the towering columns, or gazed up at Abraham Lincoln’s majestic 19-foot seated statue, odds are you’ve admired Cy’s handiwork without ever knowing his name.
In this deep dive, Cy takes us far beyond the typical tourist brochures. He shares what it truly takes to care for a national monument through changing eras, political shifts, harsh Washington weather, and millions of annual visitors. From mastering the delicate science of column polishing to tackling endless step-scrubbing, Cy has seen and cleaned it all.
However, even a master with seventy years on the job meets his match. Cy opens up about the one monumental challenge that has eluded his cleaning kit for decades: the almost impossible-to-reach, perpetually dusty lap of the 19-foot statue itself. You’ll laugh out loud as he details his inventive (and often absurd) strategies for tackling high-altitude marble dust without breaking park regulations or falling off a ladder.

The Flamingo Caper
What’s worse than a hitman trying to assassinate you? A hitman who treats his job like an upscale mixology tutorial.
In this caper, Detective Victor Graves and his perpetually panicked shadow, Eddie "Slick" Marino, leave the dive-bar confusion behind and step into the sultry shadows of a fancy eatery. Word on the street is that the infamous Flamingo has surfaced, and he's not packing singing lawn ornaments. He's packing custom cufflinks, a tailored apron, and a special gift for our mismatched duo designed to turn a relaxing evening into a permanent blackout.
Join us for a masterclass in hard-boiled cynicism as Graves matches wits and witticisms with a killer who loves a good monologue just a little too much. Can Graves outsmart a villain who thinks murder is high art? Or will Eddie's anxiety finally reach terminal velocity? Grab a glass, watch your ice, and dive into the neon-lit underbelly of the city right now.

Witless Wanderers - Roswell and Area 51 - Episode 4
Are we truly alone? Or is the government just better at hiding the paperwork? In this episode of Witless Wanderers, we follow Fred and Rodney, the world’s most enthusiastic, albeit directionally challenged, historical investigators, as they attempt to infiltrate the most classified facility on Earth: Area 51. Armed with lukewarm soda, high-grade tin foil, and a complete disregard for the concept of "restricted access," our heroes embark on a quest to expose the truth.
From confusing a rural water treatment plant for a top-secret research lab to a tactical encounter with local law enforcement, Fred and Rodney prove that when it comes to history, the truth isn't just out there—it's usually in the wrong place entirely.Listen to the episode below as our duo learns that sometimes, the most historical move you can make is knowing when to drive away.
Buckle up, KZUP listeners, and you might want to grab a heavy-duty antihistamine for this one. On this episode of Legends and Oddities, our host, Stanley O’Brady welcomes a man who has redefined the meaning of "shedding season." Meet Bart Smythe, whose home has become a sprawling, vacuum-sealed monument to the animal kingdom.
Bart isn't just a hoarder; he is a self-appointed historian of hair. With over 93,000 bags meticulously filed, labeled, and stacked to the rafters, Bart’s collection ranges from rare alpaca dreadlocks to his prized five-gallon bucket of bison mane known affectionately as "Big Bertha." Bart needs some serious help and he may or may not be in the right place for a high-stakes family intervention! Warning: This episode may cause phantom itching. KZUP is not responsible for any sudden urges to vacuum your living room or avoid local grooming salons.

Work Wonders: White House Zipper - Episode 2
In this episode of Work Wonders, we shine a spotlight on a man whose daily grind quietly supports some of the most iconic places in America—whether anyone notices or not. Meet Dale Mumford, lead installer for Secure‑Tie Technologies and the unassuming force behind the Titan‑Grip 5000 zip tie. While host Alex Kurtz arrives with his trademark enthusiasm and a flair for turning every job into a heroic saga, Dale brings a refreshingly grounded perspective: he’s just a guy trying not to drop a bag of zip ties into the hedges outside the White House.
If you’ve ever wondered who keeps history from wobbling, who prevents chaos from dangling overhead, or who makes sure the fence looks “aesthetic,” this is your episode. Buckle in for a celebration of simple tools, steady hands, and the workers who quietly hold the world together. Along the way, Alex’s dramatic interpretations collide with Dale’s matter‑of‑fact honesty, creating a perfect blend of comedy, curiosity, and appreciation for the people who keep things running—one zip tie at a time.

Someone is stripping the city’s clotheslines bare, leaving behind nothing but empty pegs and a lot of very cold, very indignant citizens. When Eddie “Slick” Marino, an informant who’s about as reliable as a chocolate umbrella, stumbles onto a mechanical clue, Graves realizes this isn’t just a simple case of a neighborhood kleptomaniac.
Join Vic and Eddie as they navigate a world of high-stakes textiles, industrial-grade lavender scent, and the most dangerous spin cycle in criminal history. It’s a story of love, loss, and the lengths one man will go to avoid doing his own laundry.

From the crunchy grandeur of the Corn Palace to the rugged beauty of the Badlands, from the presidential stone stares of Mount Rushmore to the powerful, still-evolving tribute of the Crazy Horse Memorial, Fred and Rodney stumble, bicker, and marvel their way across the Black Hills. Junkyard - by Clifford D. Simak
JUNKYARD was first published in the May 1953 issue of Galaxy Magazine before becoming a part of the Golden Age of radio. The story was adapted for the airways and was originally broadcast on February 22, 1956 on the X-1 show broadcasting on NBC radio.
JUNKYARD tells the tale of a spaceship crew exploring a planet they’ve spied from afar, and what looks to them to be an inexplicable pile of junk on the planet’s surface. They land to investigate. One by one the crew begins to exhibit memory loss, and soon can’t remember how to start the ship’s engines for take-off. The mystery becomes curiouser and curiouser, taking several unanticipated twists. Will the crew not only discover what is causing their memory loss, but be able to do so before they forget what they are attempting? One mystery leads to another in this cleverly imagined story.
As fans of science fiction, we chose JUNKYARD as our first show as it was one of the more intriguing science fiction scenarios we ran across during our initial Old Time Radio perusals. Plus, it gave two actors the chance to portray multiple interesting characters and research music as well as sound effects, which were something we hadn’t done before. We think you’ll enjoy this blast from the past as much as we did producing it and hopefully you’ll want to listen again to two guys with time on their hands doing something they love.
