What if the problem isn’t you… but the impossible standard you’ve been trying to live up to?
In this episode of Permission to Pause, we take a closer look at the Supermom myth — the quiet expectation that women should be everything to everyone, all the time, without rest or support. It’s a standard many of us absorbed growing up, reinforced by media, school, and culture, until it started to feel normal.
But normal doesn’t mean sustainable.
We talk about the hidden cost of trying to do it all, how guilt keeps us pushing past our limits, and why your nervous system simply wasn’t designed to carry that level of constant pressure.
Because your kids don’t need you to be superhuman.
They just need you to be present.
In This Episode, We Talk About
How the Supermom expectation developed over time
Why women internalize unrealistic standards without questioning them
The hidden nervous system cost of constantly doing more
How guilt keeps us pushing past exhaustion
Why rest doesn’t mean you don’t care
The difference between being present and being perfect
Key Takeaway
You were never meant to do everything.
You were meant to be human.
And the version of you who is rested is a better mom, partner, and professional than the version running on fumes.
Gentle Reflection Question
The next time you feel the urge to do more, give more, or handle everything yourself, pause and ask:
Is this actually true… or is this Supermom talking?
Who This Episode Is For
This episode is especially helpful if you:
Feel responsible for everything at home and work
Struggle with guilt when you slow down

Are tired of trying to live up to impossible expectations
When to Listen
During a moment of overwhelm
After a long day
When guilt starts creeping in
When you feel like you're falling behind
When you're questioning whether you're doing enough
Gentle Reminder
You don’t have to fix everything today.
You don’t have to do everything perfectly.
You don’t have to carry it all alone.
You just have to notice what feels true — and what feels impossible.

5: Name the Emotion — The First Step to Taking Back Control
Emotions can feel overwhelming, especially when we don’t fully understand what we’re feeling or why.
In this episode of Permission to Pause, we talk about why naming your emotions is the first step to gaining control over your reactions, your thoughts, and your energy. When we pause long enough to recognize what’s happening inside our bodies, we create space to respond instead of react.
Download the Emotional Body Map here: https://thesoothingspark.com/emotional-body-map (https://thesoothingspark.com/emotional-body-map)
You’ll learn how to:
Recognize emotional signals in your body
Identify the difference between surface emotions and deeper feelings
Reframe negative reactions into empowering choices
Stop carrying emotions that were never yours to hold
Because emotions are not the problem. They are information.
And the moment you name what you feel, you take the first step toward changing it.

4: My Story: I Was Not Okay (And How The Soothing Spark Began)
For a long time, I was very good at pretending I was fine.
On the outside, I looked like the high-achiever who had it all together — working hard, taking care of my family, doing everything I was supposed to do. But on the inside, I was struggling more than anyone knew.
In this episode, I’m sharing my story — the moments when I realized I was not okay, the fear of admitting that out loud, and the turning point that changed everything.
I talk about my experience with depression, panic attacks, people-pleasing, and the pressure to keep pushing even when my body was begging me to stop. Most importantly, I share how opening up to my family — and allowing myself to be vulnerable — showed me that I wasn’t broken or alone.
That moment became the beginning of The Soothing Spark.
This episode is for anyone who has ever felt:
Overwhelmed but still showing up
Strong on the outside but struggling on the inside
Afraid to admit they need help
Responsible for everyone else
Unsure how to keep going
You are not broken.
You are not alone.
And things can get better.
Sometimes recovery starts with one small spark.

3: The Voice in Your Head Isn’t Yours: How to Stop the Inner Critic and Rebuild Self-Trust
Have you ever caught yourself thinking:
Who do you think you are?
What will they think of you?
You should have done better.
That voice can feel so familiar that we assume it’s ours.
But what if it isn’t?
In this episode of Permission to Pause, we explore the internal voice many high-achieving women carry—the one that constantly questions, criticizes, and pushes us to prove ourselves.
Because that voice didn’t appear out of nowhere.
It was learned.
As shared in this episode, the voice inside your head is often the result of years of conditioning about what is considered “normal,” acceptable, or expected.
And when we never challenge it, that voice can quietly drive burnout.
In This Episode, We Talk About:
Where the inner critic comes from
Why we’re often harder on ourselves than others
How conditioning shapes our self-talk
Why challenging negative thoughts feels uncomfortable
A simple way to start rewriting the narrative
The Truth About the Voice in Your Head
Your thoughts are not facts.
Your inner critic is often trying to:
Keep you safe
Prevent discomfort
Avoid change
But safety and growth rarely happen at the same time.
So the real choice becomes:
Do you stay small to feel safe…
or grow and feel uncomfortable for a while?
As I said in the episode:
We get to pick our hard.
A Small Shift to Try Today
When your inner critic shows up, ask:
Is that really true?
Even that one question can begin to loosen the grip of negative self-talk.

2: Making the Invisible Load Visible: Why Moms Feel Overwhelmed Even When Everything Looks Fine
Have you ever felt exhausted — even when nothing looks wrong on the outside?
You’re keeping up with responsibilities. Managing schedules. Remembering everything.
But inside your mind, it feels like there are too many tabs open — and no way to close them.
In this episode of Permission to Pause, we talk about the invisible load many moms carry every day — the constant mental management happening behind the scenes that no one else sees.
Because burnout isn’t just about doing too much.
It’s about thinking about too much.
As described in this episode, many women quietly step into problems, over-function, and carry the mental responsibility alone — only to feel invisible and unappreciated afterward.
And that cycle is exhausting.
In This Episode, We Talk About:
What the invisible load actually is
Why your mind feels constantly busy
How over-functioning leads to burnout
Why asking for help feels so hard
The first step to reducing mental overload
The Truth About the Invisible Load
The invisible load includes:
Remembering appointments
Managing schedules
Anticipating problems
Planning ahead
Carrying emotional responsibility
These tasks may not be visible — but they use energy.
A lot of energy.
And when that mental load builds long enough, your nervous system becomes overwhelmed.
Not because you’re failing.
Because you’re carrying too much.
A Small Shift to Try Today
Pause for 20 seconds and ask yourself:
Does this have to happen right now?
That simple question can interrupt the urgency cycle and give your nervous system space to reset.

1: What Is Up With Mom Guilt? Why High-Achieving Women Feel Responsible for Everything
If you've ever felt guilty for saying no, resting, or putting yourself first — even for a moment — you’re not alone.
In this episode of Permission to Pause, we talk about the invisible pressure many moms carry every day: the belief that we’re supposed to do everything, anticipate everyone’s needs, and never stop moving.
Because somewhere along the way, we were taught that being a good mom meant sacrificing ourselves.
And that expectation isn’t sustainable.
As shared in this episode, many women were raised to believe they must exceed expectations constantly, even though that standard is impossible to maintain.
So the real question becomes: When do we stop?
In This Episode, We Talk About:
Why mom guilt feels automatic
How hustle culture and unrealistic expectations drive burnout
The pressure to be "Super Mom" and why it’s unsustainable
Why saying no doesn’t make you a bad mother
How to start rewriting the narrative around responsibility
The Truth About Mom Guilt
Mom guilt isn’t a personal failure.
It’s often the result of:
Constant responsibility
High expectations
Cultural pressure
Nervous system overload
And when that pressure builds long enough, burnout follows.
Not because you're weak.
Because you're human.
A Small Shift to Try Today
The next time guilt shows up, pause and ask yourself:
What do I actually need right now?
Not what everyone else needs.
Not what your to-do list says.
You.
