Reggaeton Is Intelligent and Perreo is Political. Perreo 101 Celebrates The History & Ethnomusicology of Reggaeton. Getting Down to the sounds, and stories that make up the fastest growing genre in the world: Reggaeton, by Reggaeton Con La Gata in English and Spanish.

Reggae Respect: 35 Truths Nobody Wants to Accept About Reggaeton
In “35 Truths Nobody Wants to Accept About Reggaeton,” we break down the realities the genre keeps dancing around—but rarely says out loud. From erasure and gatekeeping to misogyny, colorism, industry exploitation, and the myth of “organic success,” this episode pulls the curtain back on how Reggaeton really moves.
We talk about who gets credit and who gets erased.
Who profits and who gets left behind.
How politics, race, respectability, and capitalism shaped the sound just as much as the streets did.
This isn’t about tearing Reggaeton down—it’s about loving it enough to tell the truth. Because you can celebrate the culture and be honest about its contradictions.
If you’re here for easy nostalgia, this might not be the episode.
If you’re here for context, clarity, and real history—press play.

Let's Go To Church: Let's Talk About Reggaeton Stars Who Leave Perreo For Religion
From the club to the pulpit, we’re breaking down the legends who swapped perreo for praise and what that shift really says about fame, pressure, guilt, masculinity, and control in the genre. This isn’t about judging faith—it’s about understanding why so many Reggaeton icons “found God” at the same moment the genre went global.
We get into religion as rebrand, redemption arcs, respectability politics, and the industry’s obsession with cleaning up artists once they make it. Is this spiritual awakening… or cultural conditioning?
No sermons. No moral panic.
Just sharp cultural analysis, context, and uncomfortable questions.
Welcome to church.
Perreo might be quieter—but it never left.

Where The Ladies At?
Before playlists, before global charts, before Reggaeton was “acceptable,” women were already shaping the sound, the attitude, and the backbone of the genre. This episode highlights the foundational contributions of La Atrevida, Ivy Queen, Glory Glou, Lorna, and La Sista—artists who laid the groundwork in an industry that rarely made space for them.
We break down how these women pushed Reggaeton forward through lyrics, hooks, performance, and presence—often without protection, proper credit, or long-term industry support. From dancehall roots to mainstream crossover, from sexual agency to lyrical authority, their impact runs deeper than nostalgia or one-hit narratives.
This isn’t a “women’s side note” episode.
It’s a history correction.
Because Reggaeton didn’t just happen around women—it was built with them, and in many cases, because of them.

Reggaeton vs Regueton
Do you get what I mean when I say All Squares are Rectangles but all Rectangles aren't squares? Well that's how I classify Reggaeton. In terms of its musical DNA, Reggaeton has elements of Dancehall & Reggae and Regueton does not. Reggaeton was created with a Caribbean feeling, Regueton with a commercial, techno/house inspired sound. In My Opinion, Panamanians like El Chombo, Lorna, Nando Boom, La Factoria make Reggaeton and Puerto Ricans + Dominicans like LunyTunes, Zion Y Lennox, Don Omar, DY make Regueton. These are my thoughts.

Haz El Regueton Obscena Otra Vez

Make Regueton Nasty Again
I’m not a fan of the clean stuff. Once upon a time, Regueton thrived off of the likes of Jenny La Sexy Voz, Gata Gangster, and a number of others. The recipe of Reggaeton has changed, new era, new market. I understand but I miss the raunchiness that attracted me to the genre in the first place; here’s why.
