Phillies Weekly ⚾️🔔 Phillies Survive & Make the Playoffs… Can They Make a Run?
Phillies Weekly ⚾️🔔 After a wild regular-season finish, the Phillies are headed to the playoffs. What once seemed like a comfortable path to the postseason became a fight for survival, as a difficult September and a four-game losing streak pushed everything to Game 162. Joining Oscar Budejen are special guests John Foley, Tyler Poitras, and Josh Hennig as we break down the Phillies' dramatic finish to the regular season and turn our attention to the biggest question ahead: Can the Phillies make a run in the playoffs? The Phillies were baseball's hottest team in August, but September exposed many of the concerns that have followed this team throughout the season. The offense went cold at the worst possible time, the bullpen struggled to find consistency, and injuries created uncertainty throughout the pitching staff. But with their season on the line in Game 162, the Phillies responded by beating the Tampa Bay Rays. Now they have an opportunity to turn the page and start over. Their first challenge will be a familiar one: the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies will travel to Atlanta for the best-of-three Wild Card Series after going 4-9 against the Braves during the regular season. But postseason history tells a very different story. The Phillies and Braves have met in three postseason series, and Philadelphia has won all three: the 1993 NLCS, 4-2, and the 2022 and 2023 NLDS, both 3-1. Can the Phillies once again find a different gear against Atlanta when the games matter most? The postseason also presents a major pitching challenge. Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sánchez and Aaron Nola give the Phillies an experienced foundation in the rotation, while Jesús Luzardo's return could provide another important weapon. But using Wheeler in Game 162 forces the Phillies to rethink how they will deploy their starters in the Wild Card Series. The bullpen remains one of the biggest questions. Who can Don Mattingly trust in the middle and late innings before turning the ball over to Jhoan Duran? Could Luzardo or Andrew Painter become important postseason weapons in different roles? And perhaps the biggest question remains the offense. The Phillies showed during August how dangerous this lineup can be when the entire offense is contributing, but September was a very different story. Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, J.T. Realmuto and the rest of the lineup will need to produce consistently if the Phillies hope to advance. Another important question is whether Luis Arraez, their cleanup hitter, can return from his badly sprained ankle for the Wild Card Series against the Braves. After everything this team has experienced this season, from the difficult start and managerial change to the Field of Dreams turnaround, dominant August and turbulent September, the regular season is behind them. The Phillies survived. They're in. Now they head to Atlanta, where their postseason journey begins against a familiar rival. Can the Phillies make another run? Phillies Weekly ⚾️🔔 Final Week… Can the Phillies Put It All Together for the Playoffs?
The Phillies enter the final week of the regular season with the playoffs within reach, but with some of their biggest questions of the season still unanswered. Join Oscar Budejen with special guests Tim Kelly, Matt De George, and Tyler Poitras as they examine whether the Phillies can put everything together in time for the postseason. After finishing August as the hottest team in baseball, September has been a different story. The offense has cooled considerably, scoring exactly three runs in five consecutive games, while injuries and inconsistency have created growing uncertainty around the pitching staff. Jesús Luzardo, one of baseball's best starters for much of the second half, is on the IL with inflammation in his left shoulder, and his postseason availability remains uncertain. Jonathan Bowlan, who had emerged as an important late-inning option, is now dealing with a groin strain. And after another difficult outing Saturday, Orion Kerkering was optioned to Triple-A, leaving Don Mattingly with even fewer reliable options to bridge the gap between the starters and closer Jhoan Duran. Brooks Raley has also struggled since arriving at the trade deadline, posting an 8.71 ERA in 10⅓ innings with the Phillies through Saturday. The result is a bullpen whose roles and postseason composition remain unsettled with only a week remaining. But there are significant reasons for optimism. Zack Wheeler has regained his form, allowing just three runs over his last 26 innings, while Aaron Nola has a 1.86 ERA over his last eight starts, potentially giving the Phillies another dependable postseason starter, together with Cristopher Sanchez, if Luzardo isn't ready. With the Wild Card race still determining postseason positioning and home-field advantage, the final week is about much more than simply getting in. Can the Phillies get healthy, rediscover their offense, stabilize the bullpen, and put it all together in time for the playoffs? ⚾️ Final Week: Can the Phillies put it all together for the playoffs?⚾️ Luzardo: Will he be healthy enough to contribute in the postseason, and in what role?⚾️ Bullpen: Who can Mattingly trust to bridge the gap to Jhoan Duran?⚾️ Kerkering optioned & Bowlan injured: How dramatically does this change the postseason bullpen?⚾️ Brooks Raley: Can the Phillies count on him in the playoffs?⚾️ Offense: Why has a lineup that was so productive in August struggled to score in September?⚾️ Wheeler, Sanchez & Nola: Can they carry the rotation if Luzardo isn't ready?⚾️ Andrew Painter: Could his best postseason role ultimately be in the bullpen?⚾️ Wild Card Race: How important is securing home-field advantage? 📺 LIVE SUNDAY | 8:00 PM ET ▶️ YouTube | X | Facebook 🎙️ Oscar Budejen ⭐ Tim Kelly • Matt De George • Tyler Poitras #Phillies #RingTheBell #MLB #PhilliesWeekly KEY QUESTIONS

Phillies Weekly ⚾️🔔 8-21 vs. NL's Best… Can They Beat MIL, LAD, ATL & CHC in the Playoffs?
Phillies Weekly ⚾️🔔 After becoming the hottest team in baseball and finishing August with the best record in MLB, the Phillies faced another important test this week. They went 2-4 against the Astros and Braves, raising a much bigger question with the playoffs approaching: Can the Phillies beat the National League's best teams when it matters most? Join Oscar Budejen with special guests Mike McGarry (The Press of Atlantic City), Tyler Poitras (@PhilsTailgate) and John Foley (@2008Philz) as they break down a concerning season-long trend and what it could mean for the Phillies in the playoffs. The Phillies are just 8-21 against Brewers, Dodgers, Braves, and Cubs, four of the National League's top contenders. They have already lost the season series to the Dodgers, Cubs and Braves, while three games against the Brewers remain next week. They are also 32-37 against teams above .500, compared with 51-30 against teams below .500. Are these simply regular-season numbers, or evidence of a larger problem against elite competition? The concerns go beyond the record. Baserunning and defensive mistakes continue to cost the Phillies, the bullpen has shown cracks, and Jesús Luzardo's shoulder stiffness adds another question heading into the playoffs. But there are reasons for optimism: Zack Wheeler appears to be regaining his form, Luzardo's MRI showed no structural damage, Andrew Painter continues to battle and develop, and the Phillies responded to two difficult losses in Atlanta with a big six-run, two-out eighth inning Sunday. With the NL East slipping away and only 12 games remaining, the Phillies' attention increasingly turns toward securing the best possible Wild Card position and preparing for the playoffs. The Phillies have shown they can get hot. But can they beat the NL's best teams when the season is on the line? ⚾️ 8-21 vs. MIL, LAD, ATL & CHC: How concerning is it? ⚾️ 2-4 vs. Houston & Atlanta: What did this week expose? ⚾️ Baserunning & defensive mistakes: Why do they keep happening? ⚾️ Bullpen concerns: Can Mattingly find a reliable bridge to Duran? ⚾️ Luzardo's shoulder: How much of a concern is it? ⚾️ Wheeler, Sánchez & Luzardo: Can the rotation carry them in the playoffs? ⚾️ Wild Card positioning: How important is home-field advantage? ⚾️ Can the Phillies beat the NL's best in the playoffs? 📺 LIVE Monday | 8:00 PM ET ▶️ YouTube | X | Facebook 🎙️ Oscar Budejen ⭐ Mike McGarry • Tyler Poitras • John Foley #Phillies #RingTheBell #MLB #PhilliesWeekly
