The Surprising Politics of Auditing with Bob Drach- Bob Drach, candidate for NC State Auditor
Bob Drach is a Libertarian candidate for NC State auditor, a staunch advocate for
auditing as a check against misuse, fraud and corruption, and the only candidate in the race
who is a part of the accounting profession. That the importance of integrity and transparency in government spending should be questioned in the first place seems strange. In most businesses, the role of an auditor is not to choose goals or drive decision-making, but to ensure that resources are allocated to their proper uses given the goals management had already chosen. However, public auditors are usually elected as term-representatives and must justify their position to voters. The political nature of the position means that the auditor’s ethos of impartiality is complicated by the need to appeal to voters and political insiders. Drach shares his testimony on Philosophisnt of how he sees this manifest.

HAYEK AND LENIN ACTUALLY AGREE?!? (Not Clickbait)
We have on returning Philosophisnt guest Matt Torrijos who challenged me to discuss why I think Hayek is a relevant author and we end up debating whether freedom can be found for sale or whether it has to be won tooth and nail. Austrians and Marxists both put forward theories of exploitation to explain inequality, though exploitation means something completely different to Austrians than it does to Marxists. Exploiting a privileged position as a capitalist selling goods at inflated prices ONLY happens when government gets involved according to Austrians, whereas for Marxist-Leninists, governments inevitably get involved because of capitalism's essential dynamics. Challenging capitalist monopolies by enacting a temporary government monopoly is thus nonsensical to Austrians but necessary to Marxist-Leninists.
This video proves one thing. You still have to pay rent under communism (watch till the end).
